What I think he's saying here is that those who feel the need to make themselves successful must be losers in the first place. Though I'm not sure he's got much authority on the matter considering that big shiny slaphead he's got

If only that was true in the real world. "successfully" people in my company pretty much break all these rules. You see it every where politicians though to city bankers.

That's why I posted it in the Demote thread- some of the most unpleasant and dispisable people are also the most successful...

Many successful business leaders display psychopathic/sociopathic tendencies

    From the late Bill Hicks...

Don't read the comments on this one, they're not safe for humanity... even by Youtube's low standards.

A few teachers might be responding to that with the point that subject knowledge is only one of many parts of being a teacher. Behaviour management, differentiated lessons to cater for varying ability, paperwork, assessments, tracking performance, parent liaison, ignoring tw@t-faced Tory Secretaries of State for Education...

On top of that, their subject knowledge goes way beyond that of the syllabus, to at least degree level in secondary school, if not also incorporating post graduate studies and doctorates.

Usually anyway. There's always that teacher who you can't help but feel has never done the subject let alone passed a degree in it.

    Some notes:
"Hare believes that about 4 percent of people with substantial decision-making power can be classified as such"
Vs. 1% in a normal population. Statistically relevant but we all display 'certain tendencies'. If you are angry, hate someone or have to look out for yourself. People high up face those situations more often.

"Ronson uses the terms socio- and psychopath interchangeably."
Psycho = evolutionary advantage where you can repress social emotion for self-centred goals. VS. Socio = Damaged development leading to certain tendencies, sometimes comparable to a psycho.
The end-result is comparable but to give an example from philosophy: It is (considered) more moral to do something because you want to do the right thing than because you fear getting punished for not doing the right thing.
Being a psychopath is similar to how Anorexia might have an evolutionary advantage

Other than that, I don't care what you think and I will gladly read the follow up book. :D

My Secondary school Physics teacher couldn't even spell the word 'Physics', the German teacher could barely speak any German, and a design tech teacher who couldn't [realiably] tell a diode from a resistor...

Private/Independant schools, gotta love 'em...

I had a Maths teacher whose approach to dealing with a student(s) who didn't understand a question was to send them outside. How he remained employed for as many years/decades as he did I will never know.

Sadly, these days teaching doe indeed have more to do with crowd control and target meeting than it does actually engaging students and capturing their attention...

i had an ICT teacher that tried to tell the class a CPU cooler was in fact...the processor

Him 'well your not as smart as i was told you were. this is clearly a processor'
Me ' umm...its a solid aluminium block sir, how do you suppose it processes stuff ? '
Him 'dont act smart in front of me you stupid autistic child'
    Me 'facepalm'

then he also shouted, and failed me on an assignment for 'cheating' aka using keyboard shortcuts in a test

    public school teachers...absolute crap

then on a entry to employment training course i was asked to turn off the computers in the computer room

*press power button to start shutdown*

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!

shutting them down like you told me to ?

PRESSING THE POWER BUTTING WILL BURN A HOLE IN THE HARD DRIVE?!?!?!

dafuq ?? when did you pass your IT exam again miss ??

at this point she proudly pulls out her cirtificate from 1993

well miss its 2010. computers have come a VERY long way

oddly enough i failed the training course due to being argumentative ( thats what the staff say when they dont like being corrected )

Reminds me of when i started at apple [*shudder*, possibly worst 6 months of my life]

guy doing the 'training' kept getting stuff wrong [trivial **** mainly but he still should've known better] and I kept pulling him up over it... eventually he lost his cool and the following exchange happened

Him - 'Why do you keep interruping me?'
Me - 'Because you keep getting stuff wrong'
    Him - 'Stop it'
Me - 'Stop being wrong and I'll stop correcting you'
*cue stifled laughter from everyone else in the room*
