    I don't get it.

But I think Chloe is cute.

But... uh... perhaps a tad too young for me.

The kid deserved the initial tasering, but everything after that was a bit overboard. The kids dad was a cop as well, so you'd think he'd show a little respect and know that resisting arrest isn't a good idea.

Heading into speculation land, it wouldn't surprise me if the kid had some drugs on him (some articles mention the officer smelled weed), but he's a juvenile so even if they charged him all those records would be sealed and all we see is a cop tasering a supposedly innocent (albeit stupid) kid.

He wasn't TOLD he was being arrested until a few seconds before he was tasered, during this time he repeated "For what?" and the cop didn't answer (you not only have a right to know you're being arrested, but also what for). The kids dad is a cop, which is why he knew his rights and the textbook procedure, both of which the cop violated. Insisting that cops respect your rights isn't a crime.

    Pick one:

    1) If the cop smelled weed, then he had probable cause to search the vehicle and frisk the driver.
    2) The supreme court decided that a cop can lawfully order you to exit the vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
    3) Tinted windows and refusing to roll window all the way down (I call BS on it being broken) = threat to officers safety and difficult to establish identity. Obvious solution, exit the car
    4) The cop told the kid he was under arrest at least 20 seconds before deploying the tazer, at which point he was officially resisting arrest.

The cop only got in trouble for running the tazer too long and throwing the kid on the pavement. Everything else was by the book - you need to be told why you're being detained only within a reasonable period of time after the arrest.

If the kid just did as he was told, he would have been on his way a few minutes later, no harm done. Instead he acted like an entitled toddler and was justly tazered. I'm not defending what the cop did afterwards, but if the kid wasn't such an idiot, it never would have gotten to that point.

Edit: If you watch the unedited long version, you can hear the officers discussing the smell of weed in the car and either the passenger side window isn't tinted or it's fully down when another officer opens the door later
Edit2: The kids parents show up on scene later and it sounds like he was arrested for possession of weed a few weeks before the incident - they also confirm the window is broken.

Let's be cynical here, the cop got into trouble for beating the **** out of a white kid who's father was a police officer.

Paint the kid brown and take the badge off his dad's chest and this would never have seen a report, never mind a court room.

Within a reasonable period of time...that's the key word here.
It was reasonable for the cop to simply answer the questions, leaving an impetuous child with no recourse...rather than jump straight to "Do as I say without explanation or I'll taze you in to a coma" - That's the mindset of a thug, not an officer sworn to protect and serve.

Define 'A bit Overboard' ? He killed that kid, he was dead for 8 minutes before the EMT brought him back. The officer also submitted a false and misleading report to cover his ass.

Tasers don't normally kill people, even when misused as was the case here. You see plenty of examples of "stay down or I'll taze you again" on shows like COPS.

Of course he omitted his excessive use of force in the report. Would you willing divulge information that could have you sent to prison? Human nature.

    Unfortunately that's not a legal defence - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggshell_skull

    Unfortunately that's a crime.
