Getting really bored of pointless remakes now. Although I did see the teaser trailer to the new Mask film and that looked like it could be good, but only because they're doing something different with itrather than just re-skinning the old model.

I actually think multiple cameras is one of the more interesting and innovative developments in smartphones in recent years. Leveraging and combining the output of multiple small sensors and fixed lenses to overcome the inherent limitations in the form factor (compared with traditional cameras) makes a lot of sense to me. I could imagine a compound camera with lots of small sensors and lenses that would take spectacular photos and have huge flexibility.

At least with the Nokia one there is still hope it will remain just a prototype, but the whole thing just reminds me of the idiocy from Vivo and Oppo who thought they needed to engineer a solution (slide out cameras, cause adding moving parts to something frequently dropped is such a good idea) to get rid of notch...

They could just have the camera separately (which removes space constraints and allows for better cameras) like in the past:

In daily life no one needs a camera (unless you are a porn star) and for the rare occasion where you are on holiday in a location that hasn't been photographed professionally a million times already an add on camera isn't a problem.

I don't need a good camera on me in daily life. I don't need a smartphone, or a phone, or the computer I'm typing on. I like having one though, and I think a lot of people do. And most of the photos I take aren't something I could find done better on google. Oh,and as it happens I do have a separate compact camera that removes space constraints too, and with modern technology I don't feel the need to have it awkwardly attach to my phone (my mate used to have one of those. It was exciting at the time but performance was not great).

Irrespective of whether smartphone photography is important, I find compound-computational photography an interesting prospect in and of itself. If development of that is driven by smartphone camera wars, then good.

I have one of those, a 32GB one. Bought it because it looked like there had been some promising progress on opening it up to run arbitrary code, but that effort seems to have dried up.

Pretty neat bit of tech and was handy for mobile devices... right before I switched to 5GHz 802.11ac.

I don't usually post here, but this from the BBC has proper got my... err... dander up.

She's a professional hunter. She went to a place where it's legal to hunt. She had permission to hunt. She used the correct equipment and training to ensure a safe and humane (for values of 'humane' covering 'dying quickly,' not 'not dying,' vegetarians, I'm aware that's a fair point to be made) hunt. The animals she hunted were invasive, non-native species. They died with a minimum of suffering - and far, far less suffering than even the most coddled of free-range farm animals, much less factory-farmed animals. The meat will be used. Nothing will be wasted.

And yet, it's 'horrific.' Those are the words of a (pro-Brexit, naturally) MSP who is self-professedly in favour of deer hunting. Because apparently deer don't deserve to live, unlike goats.

Bonus scorn for Auntie Beeb for echoing the idiot's language and saying she was photographed 'aiming a sniper rifle on the island.' That's a hunting rifle, Auntie, for hunting.

Yes, yes, it would be better if we didn't eat animals, but so long as we do I'm always going to prefer eating wild game that's had a lovely natural life and a swift as-pain-free-as-possible death - which is exactly what she granted the goats in question.

    Ridiculous.
