People didn't like her character or her character's role; she is also Asian and female; therefore people loudly and aggressively complained about an Asian woman ruining Star Wars, or Star Wars pandering to an SJW agenda by putting an Asian woman front and centre.

Either way the TL;DR is that 'fans' were complete ***** to her (in some of the worst ways possible) and because of the backlash her role in Ep. 9 was cut to the point where it's basically non-existant.

    That's completely fubar. Just horrendous.

I agree that they seemed to have changed the scope of the film's based on fan reaction. It swung from hammy remake to fill nothingness to doubling down on regurgitated ham. There was a happy medium to be found, but apparently no one had the balls to do it or the brains to find it.

In normal circumstances yes, but will probably be mingling with other billionaire children with ridiculous names. Plus they can always taunt that they're rich enough to buy the bank that owns your house, foreclose on it and make you homeless.

Wasn't just Rose's character either, they totally walked back on the direction that Rey's heritage took.

It was a brilliant narrative subversion in TLJ when it turned out that Rey was basically a nobody. She wasn't the offspring of someone important or well known, as everyone was speculating, she was just a nobody with trash parents who sold her for drinking money. There was a fan backlash over that too and suddenly it turns out in Rise of Skywalker that 'wAiT, bUt No, ShE rEaLLy is a SPESHAL PERSON'S CHILD!'. I highly doubt that reversal was planned right from the start.

Odd ... All these references to "A New Hope" ... in my day that one was just "Star Wars".

edit ... Aww, the thread started a new page I hadn't noticed before my Star Wars reply.

Musk name. It's obviously Alien for "I F******g hate my kid". But they'll have to be careful and hide the Cillit Bang cos it cuts through dirt and grime(s)

The reason there was speculation that she was someone's child was that she was extremely powerful and required exactly zero training to use her Mary Sue powers

Says right in the article that that only the 26 letters of the English alphabet can be used in California, so something a bit more sensible (and pronounceable) will end up on the birth certificate. On the bright side, most schools are now forced to use a kids preferred name, so a bad name isn't necessarily locked in anymore.

It also says right in the article, the birth was thought to take place in California - she's Canadian, he's a billionaire - it's not beyond their means to fly somewhere or throw some lawyers at it.

Canada has the same rules (+ French accent characters) and Elon's jet is pretty easy to track, so the odds of it not being California are pretty slim. Besides in order to get any sort of paperwork in the US (SSN, drivers license, etc), they need to follow the same language rules, so why bother?

I have a theory that all these kids have normal names in reality and the strange things released to the press are a double bluff.

So in a few years time David Nathaniel Musk will start at school and everyone else will wonder about X Ray Alpha 12.

Well Prince Harry is really Prince Henry so I guess you could be right :)

Some people have problems with regular names, i've heard a mum in the past calling her daughter Siobhan over "See-o-ban, See-o-ban, come here".

    I guess that's how it's written...

I'm going to be honest, I called Siobhans See-o-ban until somebody explained it to me, in my late twenties. I would never have made the connection that it was Shiv-orn.

To be fair when I first saw the name Mr Cockburn written down it took a long while to be convinced it was a name pronounced Coburn and not a description.
