What's the long run average on that graph @ElThomsono?

Looks like there's a fairly easy straight line fit fo it

Hard to say, 20% of my wages are going into it every month so it should be going up regardless of how the market performs.

Hopefully I won't have to add another arrow labelled "China invades Taiwan" but I wouldn't bet on that :sigh:

Or perhaps more likely, the orange dictator finally manages to completely f*ck up the US economy, causing worldwide recession...

He's not going to need to do anything for that to happen: the AI bubble is already starting to show signs it's popping, and when that goes it'll make the dot-com bust look like the time my local Co-op bought in too many strawberries and had to sell 'em off at 10p a punnet.

The signs of an impending burst, do seem to be coming thicker and faster. I saw today that Oracle are building a massive debt pile.

Another year or so and, perhaps it will be time to think again about a motherboard and CPU upgrade...

Would be nice if it happened sooner rather than later. My mortgage is due for renewal in autumn and something to supress interest rates would be nice! Also my PC is over 5 years old now (Ryzen 3600 and RTX3070) and is holding up okay but god forbid anything breaks at current prices!

At least when the dot-com bubble went *poof*, one of the only "vaguely-even-resembling-good" things that came out of it was absolute scads of 'dark' fibre. Miles upon uncountable miles of the stuff sat there, unused, waiting to be lit up and start getting people hooked up to really fat internet pipes.

When the "AI" market eventually goes *poof*... who the fork is going to want all these datacentres filled with racks upon racks of matrix math accelerators?

They're bloody hard work - and environmentally destructive - to keep cool; they need their own power station just to even turn them on; no one knows just how long they'll last (plenty of reports of "AI" accelerators dying within 12-18 months); and they can't even run "general purpose" workloads, only a very specific and narrow type of calculation. Sure there's research or supercomputer uses for them... but universities and research institutions are not exactly known for splashing around billions of dollars...

It's not even like we'll see a glut of cheap ex-datacentre gaming powerhouse cards hitting the market... Even if they could run gaming workloads, you're not going to be able to whack one into your motherboard: these aren't PCIe devices. Well... I mean... you could certainly try... but you'd destroy both in the attempt...

Unless you leave it too long and the price skyrockets to well over £120, and is no longer quite the bargain it once was

Then we could use them for electric scooter racing, up and down between the rows of racks.

@Byron C , I just posted the link, as it seems to be just another indicator of how unsustainable the whole AI business seems to be and, how the bubble burst forecast by @Gareth Halfacree is coming our way. And, I agree with what you are saying.
