anyone else get the new custom pc? theres a small section saying NTL will upgrade people on 3mb line to 10mb for free by the end of 2006! for free!! they will also increase the monthly limit from 30gb to 75gb

they are also conducting a 20mb/s trial in Chorleywood... lucky buggers!

Yeah this was in the news about 3 weeks ago and ntl site a while ago to. Pretty cool. Hope they upgrade my 1mb to something more beefy as well.

Have you seen the pathetic upload though? 384kbps upload on a 10Mbit service.

Hopefully ISP's will soon realise that we dont really need 8/10Mbit services (where are you gonna download from at anything close to 10Mbit?) but we are seriously gagging for improved upload capacity.

If anyone's interested apparently Telewest's 10Mbit service will have no download limit. But I think they're full of s**t anyway, and it's just to get the customers in. Expect a amendment soon. Out next month.

Telewest are upgrading 2Mb and 4Mb to 10 at the end of this month. As you said, the upload is pathetic (although still better than the 2Mb/256Kb that I have now), but I'm not complaining... a 5x speed increase isn't bad in any case :)

The only difference is that NTL are offering everyone 10Meg and imposing Bandwidth caps and Telewest are offering 10meg to only their highest paying customers (35 pounds a month) and arnt imposing bandwidth caps.

  10. bandwidth caps suck, i mean whats the point in have 10mb/s and using only 1gb of bandwidth???

Our 3MB line (NTL) is I think £38/month. If it gets upgraded to 10MB that would be good but like NuTech said, the difference is not worth paying extra for. At 3MB, I occasionally find a download that goes at 400kbps, most of the time it's around 120kbps which is similar to what you get on 1MB anyway...

At least the upgrade to 10MB will mean I could downgrade and pay less for 3MB. Also more bandwidth is always good (Although I've never run out of the 30Gb I have - Do they even enforce it?) :)

I rang ntl and had a moan about their cap. You get a gig a day and if you go slightly over they're not bothered, but if you take the piss they will send you a letter and possibly bill you for it.

Anyone used Freedom 2 Surf? They supposedly offer uncapped 8MB ADSL for £28 a month.

then either you're using the wrong source or your internets suck
i can always max out my 2mb adsl
oh and the theoretical max for a 3mb line is only 384k a sec, so when you're seeing 400k its just whatever is doing the downloading screwing up the calculations ;)
