I was going to turn NumLock on on my laptop and type an amusing message with it enabled, where half the letters would be numbers... but I don't think my laptop has NumLock. When did that stop being a thing?
My previous work laptop was the same, although it was possibly one step worse because it was a Fn-numlock, with a Fn-lock (dreadful). Thankfully the current one has the correct config.
Every patient I see has a 12 digit record number, some of my colleagues do not understand numpads. I pity them.
Laptop manufacturers' all-too-frequent insistence on putting a Fn key at the bottom-left where Ctrl would normally live is one of the main reasons I remap Caps Lock to Ctrl...
Numlock off. I'm used to and prefer lower density keyboards. I swap ctrl and Fn if Fn is on the outside (stupid Lenovo).
Numlock ON for work keyboard, I needs the nums for financial stuffs. The rest are TKL or smaller, so no option with those!
NumLock ON, always and forever. Current keyboard doesn't have a NumLock LED though, which is bloody annoying. I have a little utility (that I can't remember the name of) which places a little icon in the taskbar to show the status of NumLock and ScrollLock. Edit: It is called, amazingly, KeyboardLEDs
In my case I do so little numeric or accounting work that number keys are more than sufficient especially with my bodged up touch typing ish technique I use to avoid the cyst on my right forefinger. I’d probably get a separate wireless numpad if I needed to use one regularly though.
ON - Not because I like numbers, but I sure do have to punch a lot of them in for 3d modeling. Also, I'm left handed, and for gaming the arrow keys and their neighbors are far better than that WASD horsehockey. -I'd swear the layout was designed by a lefty. What is a laptop?
