The "GTX580" sounds pretty much like nVidia's (vain?) attempt at stealing some of AMD's thunder prior to the HD6950/6970 (Cayman) launch. I sincerely doubt this card exists as anything else than a prototype at this stage, if it's not a paper launch altogether.
it's here http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=196102 well, this time, they are going for nVidia's top dog. while 6870 is a bit more efficient than 5870, getting more out of the exact same 40nm will be a challenge. there's also the rumoured 8+6 pin connectors.
The technology is at breaking point, 40nm is being stretched as far as it can go and all we're going to be left with is a toaster that can only slightly comfortably run Crysis. I'm itching to get a new card but it almost feels like I'm buying a Pentium IV in an era of i7. I can see what will happen, I'll get a 6970/GTX 580 and then a few months later, someone will miraculously release a 28nm running 15 degrees cooler at twice the speed.
Granted with that one, AMD (ATi forever) are dominating Nvidia like some crazed gimp... Honestly I do hope Nvidia come up with something truly scary, put some fear into AMD and make them go "WE NEED MORE POWER!" and keep innovating well!
I predict that the 580/GF110 is going to be based on the GF104 core (GTX 460) but 50% bigger in terms of specicfications with futher tweaks. I also heard that the GTX 580 is going to be 20% faster and lower power consuming aswell.
the 'ever reliable' fuad has this to say The new chip from Nvidia, codenamed GF110 is going to launch in November, most likely before Cayman. AMD set its launch date around November 20 and Nvidia is likely to launch the GF110 a bit earlier. http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/20676-geforce-gtx-580-to-launch-in-november whether this is good (early) bad (needs to get out first) is for you to decide
Hear what you like, I won't believe a word on graphics cards until there are solid release facts and benchmarks man.
When I had a 470 it could quite happily hit 85 degrees with the fan @ 80% (unbearable for me). Setting the fan any lower and it would easily hit 95 degrees after a prolonged JC2 session. The external heatpipes on the 480 seem to make quite a difference as the heatpipes in the 470's cooler are essentially being cooked inside the 470's cramped confines. Removing the cooler shroud and directing a 80mm fan at the heatpipes greatly aids the cooling but doesn't help the noise problem. I should point out that my case (Define R2) has no trouble keeping a pair of overclocked GTX460's cool (<80 degrees) and relatively quiet.
Whichever the case good competition will be good for us. I am loving my pair 5870's but if something is better there is nothing holding me back getting a new card so here's hoping that these cards are both good,
Last night I set the fans at 65% and after around 4 hours of New Vegas they maxed at 62c I normally dont bother to up the fan speed. At that fan speed I can barely hear them, And I always game late at night so I would hear them more. I know people say these things run hot and loud but I've never found that to be the case.
http://www.geeks3d.com/20101015/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-with-512-cores-in-december-2010/ 512 cores scary mmm might just fall in love with nvidia again
Extend that thought to it's logical conclusion and you'd always be waiting for the next gen card with your money aways in your pocket and a big space on your mobo where you gpu is meant to be!
Now with me I am so undecided now with each card as in ATi and nVidia but will wait at least till one month after everyone has played around with them
With the next set of cards my real question is this: Who's going to be turning out the first dual GPU card? Nvidia has completely lacked one this time around, leaving the 5970 to take the top single card title. Antilles is planned on AMD's timeline, so they're obviously gunning for one.
So, supposedly, it's meant to be launched on the 9th! You know how unreliable Fudzilla can be, but hopefully they aren't too far off.
finally nvidia's coming back in action not only fudzilla but vr-zone have also said it will be a november 9th launch here's the linkhttp://vr-zone.com/articles/report-nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-tdp-is-244w-includes-128-tmu-benchmarks-leaked/10202.html
