Yeah I ran a few similar calculations and reached the same conclusions. Will certainly be interesting to see what happens!

The thing that impresses me the most about this card is the power figures. Consumes less power than a 290 and is WAY more powerful. Really makes the Maxwell architecture look good. Or AMDs architecture look bad... Still love my 290 though.

    at 4 times the price

that's saying the titan x has a retail price of £899 , you can purchase 4 x R9 290 @ £225 each from scan for the same money

Don't forget the two hundred quid for the new PSU.

joking aside, I'd love to see the 390 competing with the new Titan at half the price or less. Assuming you don't need a Flux capacitor and Plutonium slug to power the damned thing.

Passed by the 295x2(which is a year old) in three out of the four games tested...in default and oc mode and costs £350ish more.

Value for money it is not.

295x2 delivers frames at very inconsistent time intervals . Something which is not shown up by bit techs outdated fps only test method. 295x2 seems to only perform optimally under mantle titles.

And in 2015 a $1000 graphics card still only gets 25 fps at 4K (ok in some games it manages more, but both nvidia and amd still have a very long way to go).

Rumour has it the 390X will be 80% the price of the Titan X (US$799 vs US$999)

And there I was, naively hoping AMD would drag Nvidia's pricing back into line, when they were always just going to jump on the same gravy train. ;)

Yeah that would be pretty lame. £600-£800 flagship card launches really should not become a thing.

My thought exactly. Awesome card, with amazing performance. But I've seen prices up to £1500 quoted. Surely not!?

I'd hope not but could easily see it happening. Simply because of supply over the demand.

The overclocked performance is just right for my needs (basically twice as fast as my stock GTX690) but the price is beyond what I am willing to pay. Considering this is basically a pure "gamer" card I was hoping for prices to reflect that. Sadly we are looking at full bore GK110 Titan pricing at £800+.

Amazing what they've achieved on 28nm - Maxwell is just a brilliant architecture.

Nice power performance levels might switch out my 290s for a couple of these.

    Here's the problem.

I have a GTX 980 (for work reasons, I hasten to add). Last night I was playing Alien Isolation on it, at 2560x1440. The sliders don't go up any further. And it looks amazing like Alien Isolation on an xbox 360, which is really quite consdierably less powerful.

    Er.

    So what is point?

I can't wait to see what games that actually uses the entire capability of hardware like this will actually look like. Unfortunately, such things do not currently exist.

    If you can't appreciate the difference between a last gen console at 1080p and a 980 at 1440p, I don't think that's nvidia's fault. :p

    Awesome.

Spotted a couple of typos as I skimmed it on my lunch break
Page 3: "Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB (XXXMHz GPU, boosting to XXXMHz, 7GHz memory) (Launch driver - GeForce 347.84)"
Page 11 "the GTX Titan X better the GTX 980"
