Sure is, a bit more compeitition would certainly increase the rate of development, and what a place to start, nvidia

hmm I wonder how long they will last then as in a few years real time ray tracing will be possible on normal computers and for that only a simple 2d display card is needed. Will they become a chipset only company then?

Quoted for truth. Intel finally seem to have gotten the hint, now if only nVidia/ATi would. ;)

Still, more competition is a good thing; shame it apparently won't happen.

Thirded. It's absurd that while CPU manufacturers have managed to rein in their power consumption, GPU manufacturers are demanding more and more power.
A couple less new products per year, better chip design please.

and at this rate of ever increasing power consumption, the next series of cards could need 1kw PSUs just to run the card. that is, mind you, that the current trends do not change.

I've said it before & I'll say it again: It would be really interesting if Nvidia teamed up with Via to make CPUs.

Though I too agree with you all about the power over-consumption issue.

They're working on an "accelerator" imo. Torrenza stylee.

I think there are to much patents they have to overcome. If they make a cpu, intel, amd, ibm and name some more cpu patentholders are going to stampede all over nvidia.

I'm also for more innovation in getting the powerloads down. They can make wonderful gpus, they are ridiculously fast now and probably getting faster to. I bet they have buckets full nextgen gpu's laying in the designdrawers for a every 6 months release. But In the rate it is going now. No consumer will buy them anymore because of the powerdrain on the consumers walloutlet and wallet. They really need to get their focus on lowering the powerdrain this vidcards make now and in the futere.

I want to know just how much SLI'd 8800GTX's cost the consumer over a period of a year approximately with moderate usage and use of Stand By and things of this sort. Actually, to get even more "real", how much would they cost the consumer per hour when they are at full usage? That's something I want to know....

i don't really see the point in nvidia making a processor

firstly, its not their business, they have no experience in it

Secondly, its all x86 baby, there isn't alot you can do to that
And even if nvidia wanted to, their like 10 years too late entering a pretty developed market

best for them to keep with GPU's, maybe when they have much more experience in GPGPU they might have a better chance at CPU's
