I switched on my 360 tonight and all I get is "Mode not supported" on my TV. It was working perfectly this morning and I haven't even been in that room all day. Did some googling and find that loads of people using HDMI on Samsung TVs have had this happen since installing NXE. Microsoft are aware but have no fix. I have no idea why it didn't break as soon as I installed NXE, but it's sure as hell broken now! I tried following instructions on a forum to fix the display working blind, but it did nothing (I hope I didn't just reformat or something!) If anyone knows what buttons I should be pressing it would be appreciated!
wouldn't it be easier to use the component cable to reset the settings and then switch back to the HDMI? I'll have a look at the button presses now (Assuming you've disabled the welcome tab) (I don't know if the display options differ on HDMI, but mine is for the component) up takes you to the my xbox tab right x 7 takes you to the system settings 1st option is the console settings 1st option is the display settings 1st option is HDTV settings 2nd is screen format hold up to reset list to 480p then the options run as 720p 1080i 1080p hope that helps
Cheers, I shall give it a go. I can't even get into component now either, so whatever I've done trying to fix it has screwed it up even more! Although from what I hear you can't change HDMI settings from anything other than within HDMI. You're a star for getting component working again, but I cannot get HDMI to work any more at all. Whatever I change in component mode means nothing once HDMI is plugged in. Component looks shockingly awful to me now, no way I could use that even if I had the ports spare (which I don't). [EDIT]Spoke too soon, can't get component to work again now. No more gaming for me :'([/EDIT]
What about the initial set-up option? Up x1 (My Xbox) Right x7 (System Settings) A Down x6 (Initial Setup) A Up (Yes, run set-up) A or (in case you haven't disabled welcome tab) Guide button, Right x2 (Settings Tab) Down x4 (System Settings option) A Down x6 (Initial Setup) A Up (Yes, run set-up) A
Just re-tested my system this morning which is also running on a Samung TV and it's still working fine so I can't help but think the issue may be limited to specific TV models or consoles. Do you possibly have access to another TV that you could test on and perhaps set the HDMI settings to ensure they are at safe values/the correct ones?
It's unknown if it's model specific yet, but on a number of forums (as well as the official one) it does only seem to be happening to people with Samsung and Sony LCD TVs using HDMI. Unfortunately both my HDTVs are Samsung LCDs cos I love 'em. MS have said they are aware of the issue, but I don't know how they plan to sort it as you can't select yes to update if one appears! I'm still not entirely sure why this didn't happen immediately after installing NXE (as it has with a lot of people). There's still time for yours to go BioSniper
Thanks for the input, however, I don't really need to know about all those people who have no issue... like I said, it's a known issue affecting hundreds and hundreds of people and Microsoft are aware of it. It isn't just me. Also, it doesn't happen immediately after installing NXE so saying you're fine now is all well and good, but you might not be tomorrow. Mine was running fine for 4 days til it suddenly went to Mode not supported... Also, cheers for the Initial Set-up bit Blademrk, but this seems to be caused by the new default NXE is forcing on me, so the initial setup puts that default in place at the start.
Finally! Just got mine working going through the menus blind. It took sooooo many goes! Also, it didn't look like it'd worked when I turned it off, but turning it back on showed it did. I have also heard that apparently Microsoft have changed the default now from 480 to 1080p... so if you do the Y+RT on startup thing on a non-1080p TV it ain't ever gonna work. Aaaannnnd spoke too soon. I didn't touch anything as I was too scared, thought it looked pretty rubbish quality though, then suddenly it flickered and is now all green & magenta and streaking across the screen. Looks like the Graphics are totally fried. Thanks Microsoft, your update just killed my 360.
That just sounds so stupid, making 1080p default when there are so many TV's out there that don't support it...
Indeed. Well, it looks like NXE fried my graphics card into an unusable state. I am assuming I'll have to ship it off and wait weeks for it to return. This was the last thing it showed when it worked (I have since rebooted it and nothing, it's back to "No display" again).
Mine went like that on CoD4 before it died completely and wouldn't output anything. Dead GPU If it's any consolation you should get it back in about 2wks, returning was completely painless for me.
You may get it back quickly if you send it off quick enough (before everyone else does). I RMA'd an XBox 360 for a friend on a monday and got it back that friday not too long ago.
Does anyone know if they use the same shipping references to return you the replacement console? I just wondered as I was tracking mine and 2 hours after it was signed for, it was scanned for departure. If it is this is good news as I'm stuck at home over Xmas/New Year and I'd go crazy with no gaming.
I think I got a different tracking number for the return parcel, if you haven't received one yet you probably will do soon
Looks like it got repaired/replaced, Status page shows it's with UPS, UPS have no record...yet. Hopefully tomorrow they'll work it out. Slightly worried that some people having this issue have got them back in 1080p mode and have gone through the whole thing again Others have had to reinstall NXE and it's happened again... Microsoft have acknowledged the fault affects large numbers of people but aren't providing any help on the matter. Terrible time of year for so many people to lose their consoles too.
Iv got this problem too...Just bought a brand new Samsung Le40A686 and pluged the VGA cable only to find "mode not supported". I have tried changing the resolutions etc but nothing...I changed it to 480p, 720p...still wont recognise it. Any fix on this yet? any way to get it to work via VGA cable? As with HDMI - My tv has about 0.5 sec input lag....
