Hardware NZXT Phantom Case Review

Been waiting for BT to review this since the first reviews showed up just over a week ago. First mention of a modder being involved in the design (Kudos). Definately considering this to replace my NZXT Zero. Would love to build a couple of new pcs actually, bloodrage mb, with patriot viper 2 or Giel ram, and an xmas edition fenrir in the red case mmmmmmmm.

The design is one of those thats interesting to look at, nice idea etc etc, but i wouldnt want to own one at all. Its going to dominate any room you put it in, and that grille at the front does ruin it slightly.

having said that i can definately see the attraction, and i'd rather have one of these than a dark fleet any day of the week.

Stormtrooper white is definately better than Vampire red

Great review guys! It was a pleasure to work with NZXT on this case. I do think more companies should listen to what modders have to say. After all, modding was born out of the need to change something for the better, and we're all an opinionated bunch.

Interior design and airflow was a huge priority for this case. We wanted excellent cooling, and easy cable routing. I'm happy with the case performance as shipped, but it is even better with a few of those empty fan holes filled. It's a matter of price. How much more would you have paid with the extra fans included? In the end, adding them later if more performance is desired is probably the best way to go. You still get excellent performance right out of the box, without paying a high premium for that privilege.

 

You did a great job, congratulations. I must confess I'm a little bit jelous of you being able to colaborate doing a case.

 

really wanted this for w/c but half heigh radiator = fail.

 

Not one decent shot of the rear of the case, it appears to have only 7 card slots, if so for an E-ATX case --Fail

I have one problem with this review, where are the other angles of the case in the photos? No picture of the entire top? With the front door open? The other side? The back? Instead I get a ton of shots of the one side and 2 close ups? I've noticed this is happening a lot with the reviews on here lately; is there a reason for this?

 

How do the vents on the right side help? Surely all of the air from the two intake fans blows straight over the hard drives and out of the case again!

 

Exactly! That's their sole purpose for existing. With the bigger mesh side window, and the fans on the top and rear, there is still plenty of cooling for components without having to blow the heat from the HD's through the case.

Well maybe great minds think alike! The interior was planned in early 2009. That predates your case a little...

It wouldn't surprise me if manufacturers looked at those threads. I would hope they would do the right thing and contact the designer for permission and compensation, although I'm sure that never happens. That said, NZXT is the exception. Working with the community who buys your products really makes sense. It's good to try and keep that focus, or you'll put out cases like Antec has lately...
