My mate just got himself a PoV 6800GS, and now we've started oc'ing it. We raised the normal stuff on it (GPU 525, mem 1300. With watercooling), but there got to be something we can do to make it even faster? Any ideas welcome, such as unlocking pipelines would be fun.
You can't unlock pipelines on GeForce 6800 GS - there's only 12 pixel pipelines and 5 vertex shaders to start with. Your only option is to increase the clocks, unless you fancy painting go faster stripes on the memory chips.
hmm wouldn't recommend as you would need experience - but putting more volts into it would allow it to overclock more... but you could break it (you do it by changing the bios of the video card) or using this pencil trick .. though im not sure if its the same design layout on the 6800gs as on the ultra/gt :/ good luck.. + unlocking pipelines.. i dont think there are any more pipelipes to unluck
nope there are no more pipelines to unlock as this card was built for the sole purpose of 12 pipes thats why its so effiecent not just a 16 pipe which has been crippled
And as you know since your my chum who lives round the corner. I have 2 of these from XFX in sli, they run pretty well, id say dont overclock them to b honest, but yours is POV and you may not know but XFX's is the fastest 6800GS on the market.
so whats he meant to do then? get rid and buy an xfx as its the faster part? stuff that, id just clock the slower POV card to the xfx speeds and probably beyond too.
You could volt mod the thing. Its possible to volt mod them but with volt modding risks come into play. Such as exesive heat and just pure voltage killing the cores off. As for xfx making the fastest gs in the market it may be true for stock clocks but hes overclocking and at the end of the day its more about luck than what it started to begin with. For example my fx5900xt clocked to 490/960 core/mem. It was luck of the draw. Some had trubles geting to 450/800 with the same brand and model card. Luck of the draw. simple as that.
