    Hi all

the rig which many of you helped me design earlier this year is great so thanks for that but i have a bit of a question. I've overclocked it to 3.8GHz every readout acknowledges that but when i open CPU-Z it says multiplyer 24! this isn't right i've got a core i5 and MSI P55 GD65 if that helps. All temps are fine Idle 26c and load 38c so thats not a worry but in the bios it says multiplyer 21 as it should be, turbo boost is off etc. (I followed the guide in the magazine just with my own clocks) but in CPU-Z it is giving clocks of 4.3GHz+ and every now and then it droops bleow 4 but its worrying me slightly. any clues?

sounds like the enhanced turbo boost to me.

you sure its off, if it is maybe bios issue ?

no its definitley off. I've unistalled and reinstalled CPUz and still no result. will update bios see if that helps. just to clarify my CPU isn't really running at those speeds because its really cool and is incapable of reaching those anyway so i'm not worried about it burning out.

how do u know its not running at that ?

cpu-z is accurate providing the version supports your CPU. maybe turn speed step off to see if that will make any diff ?

speed step is off. honestly I've done this OC before but this time its done something to the readout of cpu-z. The readout on MSI Control center is correct and windows says the right speed. the clocks i've got are 172Mhz and a multiplyer of 21 it should give me 3.612GHz and every other program says it is the said speed except CPU Z? I don't know what is going on but maybe i'll just try a lesser clock or something. No i can't take a photo of my bios as every all photographic technology is out of order at the moment but can tell you that everything is off that should be and that i know how to do ther OCing of this board and chip as have done it many times. I'm not majorly concerned about it but it was just a little worry the link between CPUZ and the BIOS isn't functioning.
