While a specific release date was never officially announced, I wonder if dithering over whether to release these to volume or recall and rework to replace the flex may be why the Rift S seems to have been pushed back to a near-simultaneous launch with the Quest (appears to be 30th April/1st May depending on timezone). The reference to "tens of thousands" of controllers (assuming that refers to individual devices rather than pairs, and 'tens' means '20+') indicates there should be launch stock of 10k+ Rift S's (S'es? S'? I hate pluralising the character 's'!) and Quests.
