With the news that the decision to support SteamVR on Windows MR HMDs was a very recent one and won;t be ready at launch, I wonder if this is Valve's response to the continued high price of the Vive. The upcoming LG HMD has basically vanished for now, but when it was unveiled it was announced as 'similarly priced' to the then-$800 Vive. Valve may have decided they wanted a lower-priced HMD, and saw the Windows MR HMDs as able to fill that niche more quickly than waiting for other companies to buy into SteamVR licensed tech.
