Just looking for some opinions on OCZ power supplies. Thinking for my upcoming build in a few months a 600-700 watt psu would be more than enough. I have been looking around for deals and such and as of recently I've found a few on the ocz 700w ModXStream pro ones. I haven't really found any reviews though so I'm not sure about them.

Anyone have any experiences or opinions on them? Reason being as most of the recommended psu's in the 700 watt range are also 100-130 dollars, while I've seen the modxstreams going for 90 on sale. Don't plan on making any purchases without some extra opinions.

    Thanks,
    Matt

I've heard that OCZ power supplies are perfectly fine, although don't try and get a new one from OCZ if it packs up, they don't make power supplies anymore, only SSDs.

However, Antec's range of power supplies are just as reliable and you can find a 700W for the same if not a lower price. Coolermaster are in the same price range too. I personally would go for a corsair, but they don't come as cheap for that kind of wattage.

I haven't been able to find much about the modxstream, I know in the past bit-tech guides recommended some of the ocz line for the budget systems but not too sure now. Guess i'll just keep an eye open for any decently branded 700 watt psu's on newegg, ncix and tigerdirect. Eventually one is bound to pop up in the next few months.

I got a corsair hx650 the other and it's modular, efficient, quiet and for about £90 off scan.

I'd agree with the corsair option, while expensive, corsair's psus are incredibly efficient, fairly priced for wattage, their fans spin well enough to keep them cool, but not too fast to be incredibly audible and face it, they look pretty smart.

I think it is also worth stressing that functionally and power spec wise this unit is not really up to much. Good ~700W PSUs these days would have more than ~550W combined on its 12V rail(s). They also typically have four PCIe connectors, while this unit only has two. Cables lengths are not satisfactory either; they are 45cm long to the first connector, which means they will be too short for any hope of tidy cable management in a case which mounts the PSU at the bottom.

I stick with Corsair as their support is good (at least in my experiance)

My PSU comes with a 7 warranty with corsair.

Had a 500w and 600w modxtreme and both have been great. Good psus for the money.

Must admit not much in it, but the OCZ do tend to have short cables, especially the 4 / 8 pin CPU power, with a Corsair I can route round the back of the board but with a OCZ I have to go over the top of the mobo (midi case bottom mount PSU).
The Corsair 650TX MODULAR is a good value unit, as its half modular so that helps keep the price down.
