Hi there I have just rebuilt my machine, is it worth swapping my vertex2 ssd to the new 6.0gb/s connectors on my motherboard. Will I gain any speed out of it over the 3.0 gb/s connector. I noticed in Custom pc when the test the drives they used a 6.0gb/s rocket controller card.
The max read speed of your drive is 280 MB/s so having a faster connection than 3 Gb/s is not going to make any difference. I thought they only used the rocket cards for the Crucial C300 (6Gb/s) drive as the Vertex 2E is a 3Gb/s interface?
in fact it 'should' be notably slower on the 6Gb/s disk controller for smaller r/ws - the ich9r/ich10r are the best controllers out there currently for 1 (or 2 in R0) 3Gb/s SSDs. Oh, & remember to SE the SSD before reinstalling using a method such as this... ...& that under-partitioning by ~21.5% (to increase over provisioning to the non-E versions) is your friend when it comes to maintaining speeds & longevity.
i'm not quite sure whether that actually counts as a compliment or not... ...atm i'll pretend it is... ...& you're not really hinting that i need to get a life.
Thanks PocketDemon and all you guys. I managed to rebuild and with a bit of forward planning avoid a reinstall of windows 7,but that info for when I do a reinstall is worth knowing.
i did... Just was having a devil of a weekend & needed something to make myself smile... ...even if it was directly at my own expense.
