I usually check BT from home on Opera 8/Ubuntu Linux, but when I check it at work I have to use NN 7.1/WinXP (double ick...) and something every odd happens: on the main site's pages (but not in the forums) the left-hand piece of the screen is missing - about the first word and a half of every line.

This makes it basically impossible to read BT articles from work, but at least the Forum is unaffected.

Anyone else run into this formatting error? I've never seen it @ other websites with this browser/OS combo, just BT, and just (AFAIK) since the big redesign of BT a few months ago.

I'd like to be able to update NN, or install a real browser, but alas, I have no XP admin privs.

As much as I hate to say/admit it, it wasn't worth our time to consider supporting browsers that make up less than 0.5% of our readership. We support Safari and that, i think, is just over or around 1% of our readers, and we went out on a limb to support that.

    Sorry :blah:

Fair enough. I only look at BT once or twice a week @ work, and everything works fine from my home box.

Just wondering, because this is a BT-specific problem with that browser, I've never seen it at another website.

Does anyone know if the "new" Netscape 8 renders BT properly?

Netscape 8 will, but beware of it breaking IE ;)

Any chance of some screenshots of BT's site breaking though? It may be dead simple to solve, in which case i'll sort it.

RTT, I'll see what I can do from work next week. Can't make any promises, though. It's a shared XP machine that I really only use on my breaks!

Basically, imagine the lefthand inch or half-inch (in 800x600) being pushed off the left side of the screen. I'll try and get a screenshot posted from work.

Doesn't Netscape use the Gecko engine to render pages? That's the same as Mozilla and Firefox, and it works fine with both of those. Am I missing something?

Here's a quick, reduced-size screenshot of NN 7.1 on the work computer...

Most of the leftmost button - Hardware - is missing.

(Just as an aside, I'd forgotten how painfully SLOW this work machine was until I started trying to upload stuff to Imageshack from it...)
