Pretty sure ive done the first part, but i will give it another go in a little bit once i finish work . I had done a clone before, but yeah, i can also pull the drive in the laptop and fire this one in to do an install, altho wouldnt it be easier just to insert the cloned one into the laptop, boot from it and do a reset ?
2 usb keys tried, one with rufus and one with the windows installer, both show up similar to this, i have enabled the os optimised defaults, and it has indeed disabled secure boot and legacy boot options. Now just getting a black screen regardless of what is happening, gonna use disk part to do a clean on the usb drive, and use the windows creation usb thing again see if maybe all the formatting and stuff has caused any issues EDIT: Same black screen with it done on a clean on disk part, but only the usb key option appeared this time with NTFS, still black screen tho
Ok so the plot thickens. By accident i left they mouse plugged into it, this was booted from the windows creator installer usb, i have a cursor somewhat..... So you see where the mouse is on the screen, if you were to make a square to the top left corner thats all i can see it within. Move to the right from where it is slightly and it dissapears. Move down, and it dissapears,
I had a similar problem with a NUC. I can't remember all the details other than I had to connect it to a full HD screen.
Sigh if only it was that easy, tried it through acer 1080 monitor, an lg ultrawide, and a 4k 55 inch tv, same problem this absolutely sucks
Tried it with 512 and 1gb and nothing As mentioned in previous posts i have tried linux distros as well buddy, just does not want to boot. Tbh im getting ready to list it for spares. Might just keep the ssd and the ram
No, wait! Let's get this sorted as a flag standard for the Nu-Era - the bit-massive is still alive! Assuming you have the storage space for the next two weeks or so, especially given those seasonal presents need to be stashed somewhere... I was going to team up with @noizdaemon666 on this and either halvesies or charity drop, but that's doing a disservice - most of my tech solutions have come from tha noiz quarter so it's only fair the reward goes in that direction too. That said (I couldn't see from scanning, but might have missed), is SATA set to AHCI? Shouldn't be a huge issue but may play silly. If we get to the point where we're scraping, would buying an external DVD drive with a view to returning it after disc installation be a solution (assuming USB 2 sticks not available)? Or internal drive via temporary SATA connex (unless I've missed this having been done)? **** like this happens aaall the time to me - I have a KVM switch that I can flick between boxes and there are all sorts of inconsistencies introduced. I reset the "Local Nvidia Container" or similar and it seems to work itself out, but may need to re-do some settings in games.
What USB ports are available on it? Have you tried them all? Specifically not USB3? I MUST FIX ALL THE BROKEN THINGS!!1!
Lol, those beers are a good incentive sata is set to ahci atm, but i have also tried the ide option to no avail. I also tried a dvd drive as i have an external one (since no moden laptop or pc has one and i still have cds). Couldnt get that to boot, used imgburn software to burn the dvd Lol i appreciate the enthusiasm , it has 5 usb 3 ports in total, and yes i have tried them all , both with legacy and uefi
If I had a spare, I'd offer, but can you source/buy and return an internal DVD drive, just to bypass the USB and use the SATA connection?
I'll crack open the drive later see it it's SATA and hook it up to the internal data port just to see if it boots. But no way to attach 2, so if It did I wouldn't be able to install
I'm definitely clutching at straws here, but IF it did boot the Win disc from that DVD drive, could you use a PCI to SATA adapter to install onto the SSD?
I think the easiest solution might be to install the SSD in something else, run the install on that but turn it off after the first restart so it doesn't start the Out Of Box Experience where it installs drivers etc.
cool so plan, fire it in the laptop, let install when it gets to restarting system with the countdown, power off , pull the drive on lenovo just uefi on mode ?, and attempt to boot from drive ?
So hard drive in the alienware, done the diskpart clean on the drive, done the install to point of restart. Powered down, pulled the drive, was done with the windows creation tool on UEFI, fired in the lenovo and GUESS WHAT . . Yeah nothing, bios with the os optimized feature on and secure boot off and it boots to yet another blank screen Even with sata as the only boot option i get this when i ask for the startup device menu select it and blank
Nup the built in diagnosis option has a memory scanner, left it for the several hours it took to do a mem test, both sticks checked, out, and has been tried with 1 stick. Has been tried in each slot, with the 2 different sticks
Maybe put the storage on another computer with safeboot disabled, install the latest igpu drivers, then move the storage over to this system, also with safeboot disabled. Make sure you're in UEFI mode in the bios on both.
