Work as QA manager at small software company, new office building etc. Looking into office security. Mainly due to wanting to expand more client information into the office.

Currently we have the internet router splitting off to a switch, which then links onto each computer on the network. Using windows internet security on each system with the netgear router holding it's own security.

Really what a breakdown of what other measures can be put in place and the cost. Personally i was looking at setting up a gateway computer between internet and the network computers...

Software / Hardware / Cost.. Few different options would help.

    Thanks

well it depends on your budget, some here would recommend an IPCop/Smoothwall computer between the router and the LAN, others (me :p) would recommend somthing like a Pix 501 or other product like it (from 3com / symantec etc). It depends on the size of the company, and the amount you have to spend.

How many PCs do you have roughly?

Haha, some here would recommend IPCop, you mean you :p

But to the point I have used WatchGuard's Network Firewalls before and I liked them well. Cisco's firewalls are good, I haven't used 3com's before. Just when looking for one, make sure you get one that can handle your expected amount of concurrent connections; connections wouldn't be clients, that would be the amount of things passing through the internet.

hehe, least this time I was putting both sides across :p -- and yes, what kind of connection number are you looking at -- this will be proably the deciding factor between an IPCop box (on old hardware) or a dedicated firewall, (also will you need 3DES etc on your traffic?)
