Official New Design Thread

Like the new main page, much easyer to navigate and i feel looks nicer.

dont like the new position's of the ads, much prefer them to be top/bottom or on the left, on the right they just seem annoying. dont like the moving/flashing adds.

im undecided on the fourms and dont realy want to make a judgement untill the bit-tech team have decided what the final dark vertion is going to look like.

anyways good work on the main site, liking it more and more i explore it. hopefully the forums will end up just as nice.

 

there are icons, and they have meanings, just as before. the explanations are at the bottom of the forum listing. the wierd arrow means you've read it.

 

yes i could grow to like this new "dark" color

buttons/tabs are like that for a reason - to save bandwidth - they aren't changing javascript images Which means lower costs for us and quicker loading for you guys.

I must say guys, i know i don't want to be a moaning ninny and all that, but the colour scheme sucks - there's too many, it looks like someone's gone through it with a box of felt-tips. I know it's not what you want to hear, but i'm just registering an opinion. Sorry to offend. Otherwise, i think it's pretty decent really, except for the flashing ads.

 

I don't like it. I give the old was 8.5/10 and the new 3.5/10

The front page has too much info in too small a space and the colors on front page and the forums are lame. Before the colors were generally unique to bit-tech and now it's just another vB forum.

 

The new dark scheme is much better now than that light purple/blue that was there before.

 

Out of interest, will there be a bigger avatar limit now that we can switch them off (56k friendly) ?

Having seen many versions of bit i must say i have mixed opinions on this one.

i like the layout and coding of the mian site, im just unsure on the cosmetics of it? I dont know whether its the fonts or colours or waht, but somehtings bugging me.

However The main site is now a hell of a lot easier to use, everything is on the one page.

Now its time to sort the forums out. New colours and less waste of time posts. I reckon at least 30% of the posts on this forum are rubbish, lame, reposts or stupid.

Have to say that the dark looks better, but the fact is that it's still garish and dare I say immature looking as a forum design. I'm still here for the content, but it does feel like a step backward.

And I'm still for the text ads, if ya have to run them...

 

Maybe it's just me, but considering BT is still a free forum for us to hang out at and they guys did all this between uni/work/family/heavy drinking and womanizing; MAYBE we could be a little more supportive and encouraging.

I like the lighter look to the forums, it's a little easier on my aging eyes.

 

bug, click someone's name, the menu that appears appears about 3/4 of the way down the page when it should be directly underneath?!?!

 

Love the new layout on the front page and the new structure. Makes everythig a lot easier to navigate. The quick reply in the forums is also a welcome sight.

Like many other people, I'm not a huge fan of the colour scheme it is a bit on the too bright side. Again maybe there is too much info on the front page.

Very true. But its also very good to be honest and let them know what many think. I don't think many are complaining as opposed to just giving their two cents.

Reading this thread you can see I really dislike the new design/scheme/look but I will be the first to say I like the new layout of the site for content. And even more so, they could make this site pink and I would still be here for the content.

And to add to that the overall reason is this: the new site is very 2d, no curves or images used for visual design whatsoever. To put in curved images would look so, so bad and totally out of place (try it). It's only fair that we keep that theme right the way through.

 

the old was definitely much better. this has been said way too many times, but there are just too many colors. What bothers me the most is the thread status icons. they used to be an envelope, now the bit logos look so out of place. I think we should at least have the option of using the old look. plus, now i have to change the background color of my avatar at least the smileys are still the bit blue, but the rest of the design seems so much like other forums'. the layout seems just as good, if not better, but the colors are just plain wrong. and the thing at the top seems so un-bit... the thing with the "v" and "b" keys fading to blue with the logo. on a scale of 1-10, ten being the best, on overall style, 1.5-2/10. layout: 7/10. colors: 1.5/10 (at least its not hot pink and lime green)
the old desin was 8/10, 6/10 and 8/10.

its probably not going to stop me from visiting the forums, but it looks a lot worse.

edit: and i just realized that the sidebar ads really get in the way when trying to view threads in a non-fullscreen window.
