Don't ask me why I want an offshore VPN, ask no questions tell no lies kinda thing. I wanted something that wasn't in the EU. Russia, Malaysia and Singapore were that first that came to mind. So i started searching and the ONLY place i can find that does Russian(or well outside EU) or any other country was this site: https://www.intl-alliance.com/store/ I know nothing about this site but I hope someone does. I can't find any actual reviews on it. I have 3 questions. 1: How good are they and are they legit?(Plus, i'm in the UK, would say, a russia VPN have a massive effect on my browsing and occasional downloading experience?) 2: Has anyone acually bought something from them or could you recommend a decent place that does russian VPN'S or "well offshore". 3: This is the best one, on this site they claim this: https://www.intl-alliance.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_137 It's a vpn account on a server in Antarctica. This sparked off alarm bells, i thought they just had satelite uplinks from those places, can anyone shed some light on this? Any info on a good russian VPN provider that would give me decent download speeds etc. I obviously understand, it's quite a way away from the UK and would have a performance decrease. It's for privacy and security reasons.
+1. This sounds interesting, possibly even 'aiding and abetting' or 'accessorial liability' interesting... Also, have you considered America? There must be plenty there, and it's definitely off our shores. Or is whatever you want it for particularly illegal there, too?
o come on you can't say something like this and not expect people asking why. it just makes us want to know even more. if it is not illegal then what is the harm in telling?
Can't suggest anyone that supports a russian VPN, but VPNTunnel.se is based out of sweden and offer a open vpn client with a choice of about 5 countries, I've used it in the past with no problems, I've also maxed out my bandwidth (10meg) through them in the past. proxpn.com/ is US based & offer a free US vpn (limited to 1meg download speed) or you can pay for more speed/ nationalities.
If you're looking for a level of browsing anonymity you could try using FoxTor within Firefox. I'd be wary of using internet banking or signing up for things with an email address in general over any Tor peer though.
Well the point is I need it to be in a country that won't just bow down to US and EU court orders at the drop of a hat. Being anoymous on the internet is easy, it's not that that i want, i want privacy and security. Can anyone suggest a decent russian dedicated server provider then? And if you must know, i want to host a website(no it isn't a torrent tracker or child porn) that is on the boundries of being questionable, and id rather just play it safe from the start than have to go through the heart ache later.
I know someone who uses one to watch CSi episodes on CBS. If you try it, normally, it says 'not in your country my old son'.
and I don't believe the reason why is what the topic was originally about sunshine... Although thats what it has now become
Just out of interest, how will a VPN help you host a website? I was always under the impression that VPNs were used to visit websites, especially when trying to evade geographic content restrictions like those used on iPlayer et al. If you want to host a website, it sounds to me like you really need a webhost, not a VPN provider. Running a website through a VPN sounds problematic - bandwidth is expensive, and you'll have to host your 'fringe' content back here within the jurisdiction of the people you're trying to avoid. Shady webhosts are readily available - after all, as you point out, the world's CP and torrent-trackers have to go somewhere. Or have I grabbed the wrong end of the highly-questionable stick?
Well i am in two minds about whether or not to buy a server in say russia etc and host my site there, or to host it on one of my windows servers and connect to a vpn that way. But bandwidth in russia is very expensive :/ Either way it's for a website.
