this is the first i've heard of trains crashing in the UK, they have crashed a lot over here in the past few weeks. although a lot of people are now using trains in stead of flying since sept 11.

Yeah Byers will be gone after this.....about time to! My moneys on an anouncement on monday, he'll see what the media reception is like over the weekend and if they slate him he'll have time to pick his stuff up from the Dep. of Transport before he gets escorted off the premises :D

A very unfortunate incident. Saw this on the news over here too. Normally we don't hear too
much about this kind of thing. From reading posts, it sounds like this is not uncommon.

I sy either get rid of the rail network in its current state, or do heavy upgrades to get it sorted to prevent crashes like this... If the track is in a c*ap state, then they are just begging for accidents to happen! :grr:

Is their a particular reason for the crashes? Lack of maintenance, traveling too fast or something else?
Seems that rail in general should be relatively safe. Of course, I live in a place that shuns rail systems.

Basically lack of maintenance... doesn't help when the company in charge of maintaining the tracks goes bust... possibly due to our government's incompetence, but more likely a ploy to show up the Tories and buy back the railways cheap. Are innocent lives worth nothing to Labour? People are getting killed here... DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Thats very unfortunate. I have a feeling when our rails become privately owned, they will become more dangerous.
I prefer driving because I don't trust the maintenance of private interests. Sure, its technically more dangerous, but
my chances of surviving a wreck are greater IMO.
