And not for the better :(

    BBC News

Just look, it's 'orrible! They got some new guy in a few months back to be in charge of making it look pretty, and he certainly seems to think he's succeeding. When in reality all he's done is spread it all out, added whitespace, added bloat in the form of extra useless pictures, and centred it.

Anyone else anywhere near as upset about this as I am? :(

What he said. Sensible layout, not too heavy on the images, clear fonts, good colours. What more could you want?

Bah, well I hate having to now scroll down the page to read the full thing, not because there are more stories added, but because there's more white space so people can feel it's more "light" and "airy" - god damnit I hate style over function.

What's the deal with Audio and Video in the menu on the left having a blank space above and below it? Seems a bit of a strange design decision. Also, the Search button at the top looks a bit off kilter. Other than that - win!

i find it nice.... simple and light to the eyes..... instead of:

"what is that? and this? and that? *information overload* *BOOM!!!!!*"

I like it, makes it iPhone friendly as well as small screen friendly. Found the other page too "packed" when on the main page.

They simply increased font size and spacing to make it more accessible to people with poorer eye sight (only old fogeys read the BBC, don'cha know? :p ). Or to a readership who still move their lips when they read.

I think i'm with spec, it seems to take longer to scroll down now for no apparent reason. I'm also undecided about the iPlayer streaming setup on the top of the page.

It's much too spaced out and it seems harder to make out the different sections of the page now. I think it won't be so bad once I'm used to it, but I don't see why they had to change it.

I really don't like the BBC home page, for the reasons spec cites, but the news homepage is alright. It could have a bit more information given the space, yes, but it's an improvement on the old site by a long way.

Yeah Glider, that is indeed horrific. I didn't even wait till it finished loading, once it hit 900KB I closed the tab.

This really seems like change for change sake. They had nothing to add, they havn't improved the site in any apreciable manner, and they've made it worse in several. Depressing :(

I am a bit surprised that the site which possibly had the most dumbed down news on the planet can actually look less intelligent, but they have managed it.

I can't stand the BBC these days anyway, I very rarely use the site unless to see what rugby match will be on and as for BBC news, I have it on in the morning to wake me up and it feels as if nothing has changed from when I was six and was waking up to ceebeebies and the like. It really does appeal to the lowest common denominator, all the childish jokes and immature laughing with highly irrelevant news pieces just makes me cringe. I say this now and I'm only 17, I've not grown up too fast but seriously!
