Would you characterize yourself as mighty or mighty odd? The jury between my lobes is still trying to decide (though my heart is composing a sympathy letter). The problems you've had really do sound anomalous. Perhaps they're traceable to the incompetent electric company you mentioned before. Either that, or you've got to stop rubbing your kit on the carpet to savor the pretty sparks. I can think of six distinct reasons to prefer the 360 over the PS3, but increased console longevity isn't one of them. Jasper's an improvement, but it doesn't change the build.
TV downstairs is a 28" standard def set, so a PS3 on that would be a waste. TV in my room however is a 42" plasma, and I wouldn't want to set it up downstairs as I'd never get to use it for playing games.
well one of my ps3's is on an older 48 inch sony, only has component, no vga, dvi, or anything, so its fine for racing, or guitar hero, but shooting games you can notice it's not the sharpest. That case I go upstairs to my brothers room, he has a 40 inch S series sony that has 1080 and all the fancy stuff, and it looks very nice to play on. I would set the ps3 up in my room on my 24 inch pc monitor, but no room for if friends come over for rockband, or nhl or anything.
The nice thing about the hotel that I'm staying in is that it has 32" HDTVs in every room. It's now been about four weeks since I bought my PS3 and I still regret it. I think I've used it more as a DVD/Blu-ray player then I have a games console. Little Big Planet is pretty fun but I just can't seem to get into MGS4 right now. I picked up UFC 2009 Undisputed and that game is so much fun....but I wish I had it for my 360 instead. Overall though, I'm kinda glad I bought it but, at the same time, I wish I hadn't. If I had only paid $250 or $300 for it, it probably wouldn't have been such a major decision. I still can't believe I bought a Sony product though. I feel dirty.
What other types of games do you like? I'de highly recommend Valkyria Chronicles or Folklore (1st gen game on the PS3 but still fun). It's kinda tough owning both, but as of late I've gotten used to buying most of my multiplatform games on PS3 (by choice) so it's become my obvious first choice unless the game has seriously problems on the console (which they usually don't). Also you should rent inFamous and play the Resistance games as well.
Metal Gear 4 is awesome....beyond awesome! Greatly engrossing game...but beyond that the ps3 has nothing really going for it. I bought mine purely for blu-ray movies and still live off my xbox 360. The 360 is better, much better over all. Will definately buy the next iteration of microsofts console, i presume all the bugs will be fixed by then!
Seems im the only person who is primarily a PS3 Player, who bought a 360 to play exclusives. 360 hasnt been turned on for 4 months, my PS3 is hardly ever off I am a Sony man, so its in my blood PS1 > PS2 + GameCube + Xbox > PS3 + Wii - Wii + 360 Shame we wont be seeing MS's next console anytime soon, the white hurricane is underpowered nowadays.
nope I did the same bought both but used the PS3 more, primarily because I could use it at night with the TV on a low volume, impossible with a 360 at the time and also because the games were cheaper when imported (tight arse, I know) I then discovered that most MS exclusive I'm interested in eventually ended up on PC I bought them there instead. I sold mine when I heard HDMI variants where coming out, never saw fit to replace it. I think after 4 or was it 5 years of paying for live (owned original Xbox too) and not really using it beyond the odd race etc, I couldn't see what the machine offered over a PS3 which was free for an occasional net player. I keep thinking I'll pick one up again, but to play what? Not many things that don't get covered by PS3 and its alternatives and Playstation seems to have more original IPs on it, Sony taking more risks with that stuff on PSN. Only really miss out on PGR and I was a bit jealous that I couldn't get R-Type Dimensions for a bit of old school fun but settled that side scrolling shooter need with a member of the gradius collection. Probably helps that most of my friends that will play online do so on PS3 even though more of my friends have 360s they are cracked and they don't multiplay on Live.
Been a few months now and my impulsive buying has finally overcome my dread of buying the PS3. My current game library has topped out with Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, FEAR, FEAR 2. Batman: Arkham Asylum (really wish I had this for my Xbox but I was 1200 miles from my 360 when it came out), UFC: Undisputed, Soul Caliber 4 (hey, wait, I already own this game for my 360!), Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, and God of War Collection. Have a TON of Blu-Rays in my movie collection now and refuse to buy DVDs. There's some ghosting going on occassionally but it happens on my PVR and I'm starting to wonder if it's the HDMI pass-through on my receiver but I'm too damn lazy to start pulling cords in that tangle of wires. I still could care less for PSN. The ability to buy digital copies is cool, I guess, but there's the same damn price as Blu-rays for the most part without having a case or disc. I borrowed CoD: WaW from a friend to play online and the friend match system is just retarded. The ability to just jump into a friend's game on XBL is so much nicer. The controller is still a horrid piece of hardware though. I'm going to have to look at a good third-party alternative or just mod the one I already have. I think if the joystick nubs were concave instead of convex, then I might like it a bit more. It irkes me when my thumb slips off of the joystick because my hands are sweating during an intense moment in a game. Overall though, I think I'll give my PS3 a 7/10. It's still a nice system but when it comes to features that it shares with my 360, I think my 360 does them much better. Maybe things will improve in the future, who knows.
Yeah, I have that problem. I use a set of these and these (the concave ones). They make the controller infinitely better IMO.
i got my PS3 just for Metal Gear Solid 4.... and a HD TV, i started saving for it as soon as MGS4 was announced at E3... i think it taken me 3 years, but had the money a week before MGS4 came out. i got killzone 2 (which was a let down), as well as bargin games for like £10 or £15, but that's pritty much it, im still a PC gamer, and always will be, consoles bore me.
I borrowed my brothers when he was away. 'Twas alright, but I'm still not sure if I'll get one or not.
+1, I was an old-school Sony fanboy (PSX, PS1, PS2, PSP - hell, I have MiniDisc players, three Vaios, a full stereo, our old Trinitron CRT, the bedroom hi-fis, two HandyCams, some Discmans, even an ultra-rare-ultra-pointless MiniDisc CAMCORDER and wearable surround sound) but then my Dad did used to work there and get discount. My PSX still works fine at my cousin's (with the oh-so-cool black discs) and my PS2, which I got pre-launch (thanks Dad!) is still whirring into life for occasional MGS:2 and 'Splitters 2. The PSP is used on long journeys, the Vaios still work, even that MiniDisc crap would too if I could be bothered. My favourite controller of all time is the DS2 - I'm useless with everything else. And yet I cannot justify a PS3. I think it might be that the mighty PC's ability to play games that you bought ages ago in random places from random people appeals to me more than the thought of paying through the nose for games that will only work on that console, and I've never seen the point of consoling online when the PC is so much more convenient, and free. I do wish I could get official PC DS3 support, though. You don't have hands the size of dinner plates?
If you read up - this is what I said before in a previous post. I now take this back and would like to amend it: The ps3 is a good console. It has blu-ray, it has wireless networking built in and it has online play for free. However all this comes at a price. The games I find are generally not as well coded compared to the xbox 360, the hardware hasnt been fully utilised and the online play is basic with multiplayer support being a letdown especially when it comes to communication with friends etc and ease of use. But value wise it is better than the xbox 360 - however as a gaming console it is inferior but has a decent selection of games now (uncharted 1 + 2, metal gear solid, killzone 2, little big planet, fifa 10 etc etc and growing slowly...) The xbox 360 is a pure gaming console. Online play is great but you pay for it with xbox live. Theres a good variety of games but mainly its great for FPS I find. It runs DVDS also but not blu-rays and the wireless adapter will cost you an arm and leg which would make you want to rather buy the ps3 instead as when you put the cost of the adapter in they are both the same price. Also it is prone to fail - after looking after mine really really well...it suddenly failed out the blue without even heavy use...which leads me to believe they all have a fundimental design flaw and its not just "overheating" or the environment. I know allot of people that are on their 2nd or 3rd xbox 360 so its easily a widespread problem. However as a gaming console it is superior...but you pay a price for it through xbox live and the extras you need to make it good.. OVERALL however.....if i was to make an unbiased decision since i own both consoles...the ps3 is the "better" console however it has drawbacks. The xbox has the main things going for it but fails at the basics such as hardware failure, costly extras such as the wireless adapter and xbox live, lack of blu-ray ...which all hold it back. The ps3 is actually a good choice now and much better value.
In my life ive had mega drive: Still alive, tho its went missing =( Want to play streets of rage and golden axe again lol. Use to trade with my mates for his nes and snes. Best thing for cash strapped kids to play everything lol. PS1: First one, the laser died after 4 years I think. Second one was when the slim was released I remember that. Still have it too and a mini screen for it =D. Been on holiday a few times with me lol. PS2: First one died laser again I think after 5 years. Got it repaired by a mate. Got a slim a year later and both are alive. PS3 and 360: bro plays these more than me. I only play exclusives, mainly GT5 prologue and little big planet atm, and GTA 4 on them. wii: wii fit brought some use out of it. tho spends most of its time gathering dust. Only console that I can play with a group of people lol. GF loves wii sports and mario kart......as does her dad. Easy brownie points there =p
Never owned a console in my life till about a year ago when me and the gf bought a Wii between us. I haven't used it much in that year, certainly not the second half, but its more of a lack of time issue than anything else, have about ten awesome games for it that I'm nowhere near done with. My girlfriend got Wii Fit for Christmas though so it'll probably get almost daily use now, even more if I can tear myself away from my new PC long enough to finish Metriod No hardware failures yet
Almost a year and a half later and I have three words (four?) about my PS3. Glorified. Blu-ray. Player.
I think my original Playstation still works. We ere naughty and had something place inside that would allow us to do things that we should not have been able to. I also got the original laser replaced at that point, because the guy who did said naughty thing had an upgraded one from a newer console. Also had the spindle replaced when I snapped it from overuse. Playstation2 still works, although I need to turn it upside down to get it to load games. Need to dig it out and play MGS3 again. Classic game. Hands down one of my favourite games ever. Wish there was a PC version. Never got a PS3. I wanted one so badly, but never got one. I was into PCs much more by then, so I didn't mind too much. Occasionally played splitscreen Warhawk with my mate (which was awesome) and when I went to my guitarist's house, he made me have a go on an instagib server on UT3. I sucked with the controller, and there was perceptible video lag from his plasma screen. However, after 45 minutes on the 15 minute rounds, I was racking up a good 50+ kills a round, and started getting accused of cheating. Good times. Still want a PS3. I'd get an old 60GB one if I was certain I could play PS2 games on it.
Time was my 360 used to be pld more than my ps3. I am still using my release day ps3 but have gone through 7 360s so far. Dont no if I should trade my noisy elite for the 360s I might in the end as I crave Rez HD alot
