I have an MSI nForce2 K7N2-V motherboard with a AMD Athlon xp2600+ 333mhz cpu. I decided to try and overclock it. Now all I get on bootup is a Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0 Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc. BIOS ROM checksum error Detecting floppy drive A media... INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER_" It does not give me an option to hit delete to go in and reset anything. This was my first try at overclocking and may well be my last. Needless to say, "Mama is not happy." She would rather I had spent the $135.00 to get the xp3500. Help if you can. Thank you.
Mmkay... Turn the computer off and open the side panel. Remove the CMOS battery. Wait 20secs and put it back in. Reboot and see what happens. - H.
Have you tried resetting the CMOS? There should be a small jumper on the board to do this- check the manual. <edit> Beaten by Herbicide- removing the battery will do the same thing.
yes try this.but if the computer powered off during saving to cmos(after overclocking) then if that doesnt work you might need to download BIOS for the mobo(available at manufacturers website) at a friend's house then save it onto a floppy (thats why it is asking you to insert a floppy.
So reboot with floppy with aforementioned files, go in and return settings to "normal" and all will be well? or might be well? or will I be purchasing that new cpu after all?
It should be fine...I wouldn't advise getting that CPU, unless you typo'd - the only 3500+ CPUs are Socket 939 chips and probably wouldn't fit in your Socket 462 board that well Have you reset the CMOS yet?
Socket A = 462 pin. Every 3500+ processor = 939 pin. They would cost more than $135 though, so I think you probably didn't mean 3500+...
Ya know, you are right. This is what I was looking at. yes should work.but if not it wont be the cpu, that will be fine. the worst case scenario is you fooked the motherboard's BIOS chip so a new one of them if was possible or a replacement motherboard at worst.
if it restarted with it flashing then your bios will probably be screwed unless you have the gigabyte dual bios that automatically flashes it back to the original bios becuase it usually can't even get to the boot from screen when you mess up...
