    Hi guys,

I need an ISP that delivers at least 8meg adsl and has a phone package to go with it as the house i am sharing is yet to have a line activated.

So far it seems Bulldog might be the only solution, any other ideas? Bulldog were on UK's Watchdog programme the other week for being **** at customer service and installation times. :wallbash:

    Edit:

    Many thanks for any help.

8mb line....holy moly how much pr0n do you guys need?

we had a 3mb between 5 of us (well 6 really as gateway was there too ) and that was more then adequate...

if you are like me and think that cable>adsl you will need to check with ntl or blueyonder!

UKOnline or Bulldog or Easynet - but avoid them really.

Try Be, there are trials on 24meg broadband going on at the mo in some parts of London, just £20/mo for life.

no worries? is it london as your location seems to suggest? i know that in bristol we could only get blueyonder (hurrah!) but over here in surrey we can only get ntl (eugh!)

ah, a bit misleading. I'm in London at the moment, north to be a bit less general, but I'll be in Portsmouth within a few days.

I emailed then a week or so ago, and they are as you said doing London, but not Portsmouth at the moment.

I'll look at UKOnline and Easynet.

Easynet seems like it's for Business' and UKOnline require a BT line, but we kind of need a phone deal from the ISP like Bulldog does with free evening calls to 01 and 02 numbers.

Not being able to get cable really limits you. Have you considered something like Freedom2Surf. 2Mb to start off with, then you get upgraded to 8Mb when it's possible in your area for a one of payment of 15 or 25 quid. Use that in conjuction with a VOIP service maybe?

What part of Portsmouth are you staying in, I doubt you are in the Cosham area, but Portsmouth and Portsmouth North exchanges have LLU enabled, so you can get 8meg. But only with bulldog. check this out.

Thanks for doing that research. I've just found out that my postcode is classed as being in 'Southsea'.

That site says I can get these...

    BT Wholesale ADSL
    BT Wholesale SDSL
    ntl:home cable
    Bulldog LLU ADSL and SDSL

I got bulldog in the end guys.

It was good for a day but now i'm only getting 15kb/sec with what's meant to be an 8meg line. Counterstrike has 400 pings. :wallbash:

    I did yesterday.

The first time it told me it was around 3meg, then later the rates got **** and I did it again and got just under 1meg, then later the same as dual isdn.

As I type now it is...

    4800kbps....

    So half 8meg.

I'd of said either your line is crap, or your exchange is overloaded and it cant cope with all the bandwidth requests(?). Im with bulldog and i've had no problems so far, speeds have been pretty fast. What speed is your line synced at?

edit: also, dont pay too much attention to online speed tests. I was getting 3-4mb on the test, but from some servers i can download at ~ 800k/s. Most servers dont give you that much speed to leech with :hehe:

I think there are too many students on my exchange doing exactly what we're doing; downloading.
