I was thinking about building a collection of all the games consoles of days gone past. Have any of you tried anything similar? I suppose it seems like junk now, but one day it might make an interesting display piece. My collection at the moment: Sega MegaDrive II Sega Saturn Nintendo 64 Gameboy Pocket Gameboy Colour Sony PSX Sony PS1 Sony PS2 (slim) None of these are 'rare' yet, but I might look into things like 'Game&Watch' and old school atari and commodore consoles.
used to have an atari dont know what happened to it, also had a master system but sadly it stopped working and i traded my ps1 (one of the small ones) for an xbox that i havent used in god knows how long, i remember packing it into a box when i moved but i dont remember seeing the box since
I'm doing the same thing tbh, I don't have the funds to go for anything really rare atm but what I've got is: Mk1 Mega Drive Sega Saturn Dreamcast (with about 8-9 factory sealed games and 3 factory sealed VMU's) SNES N64 GameBoy GameBoy Pocket GameBoy Colour GameBoy Advance Newer stuff: Wii PS2 (one from way back in 2002) DS chunky DS lite PSP The next stuff on my list to get is: Master System NES 32X SegaCD
I did along time ago, but got rid of it all years back due to lack of space. Shame really because I had some great consoles from good old days. One rare one I had was the Scorpian. It was a megadrive clone whcih not alot of people know about. It was a shame to get rid of that as im sure it will be very hard to come by again. http://video.aol.com/video-detail/sega-megadrive-clone-scorpion16-by-ticket100/1488064789
All of my systems where bought when they were first released, never used, and all of them were working until i got rid of them besides the original game boys which i broke, and the NES which is missing the power cable. The rest were given away to charity besides my wii, my ps3, my ds, my n64, and my gameboy advance. The ps2 and xbox was sold to friends though who wanted them. I've had the: Original gameboy - the huge grey box (super mario bros Cheesecake) NES (duckhunt Cheesecake) Sega Genesis 2(sonic Cheesecake) Panasonic 3DO Interactive (some random army game i had Cheesecake) PS1 (ff7 Cheesecake) N64 (golden eye Cheesecake) PS2 Gameboy advance (ff tactics Cheesecake) Xbox PS3 Wii (smash bros brawl Cheesecake) Nintendo DS (mario games Cheesecake) I never hear anyone talking about the 3DO interactive, so i'm going to assume it's rare. Also, i sold my NES power cable to a stranger for 20 bucks... so i'm going to assume though they are still available if you look around, it would be worth something to a collector.
i believe the 3DO didnt sell very well when it was released, thou i could be wrong. Trustedreviews did a couple of articles on old school consoles and the big games
Nope, not very well at all, shame because it allowed any manufacture to make their own. The Panasonic version suffered with a high failure rate compared to the Goldstar version. Bit like the 360 really lol I owned the Panasonic version with some great games like Need For Speed, Road Rach and Firepower. Nice bit of history.
I've just found out my flatmate has an Atari Jaguar in the attic, I'm going to dig it out and have a play tomorrow.
I was recently going to pick up an NES, SNES and NeoGeo, but they're getting a little bit pricey these days - same price to buy a Wii just for virtual console A friend of mine in Chicago has a collection of pretty much every console since around 1980 (and a zillion games for each) except a 3DO and NeoGeo (though I think he's working on acquiring the latter). Other than that, I believe its 100% complete. Impressive, and fun! I've tended to get rid of one console to fund the next throughout my childhood, meaning the most retro console I've got now is an N64 :/
I've got a Zelda watch somewhere, probably. Come to think of it, I've also got a GameGear somewhere buried in a cupboard at my parents place. No doubt they've binned it though
Although not limited to 'consoles', my collection currently comprises: Sega MegaDrive (original model) Sega MegaCD (original model) Sega Master System Converter (for MD) Sega GameGear (x2) Sega Saturn (boxed) Atari Lynx II (boxed) Atari Jaguar (boxed) Commodore C64 (boxed) Commodore C128 (with C2N and 1541 disk drive) Commodore Amiga A600 (boxed) Atari 1040STe (upgraded to 4MB, with high-res monitor) Nintendo 64 I'm sure I'm missing something from that list, but I can't remember what. I have also owned an A1200 (64MB of RAM and a 12GB drive, given away when I moved house), Atari 520STe, A500+, Master System Mk. 2, NeoGeo Pocket Color [sic], Sega Dreamcast (with every accessory under the sun) and one or two others.
The Game&Watches are really becoming collectors items. I wonder how much an original silver one would fetch... Only one I've played is the orange Donkey Kong one. Hours of retro fun... I think I'll go Nintendo for now. It'd be wise to pick up a Commodore as well before the prices rocket. Wizball on the Commodore 64 is brilliant! Game Gear is legendary as well. Anyone here ever own an Atari Lynx or a Turbo Express? I don't think I know anyone who does...
OK ... not as many as you guys but heres mine Sega Mega Drive 2 - (used for all the sonic games) with a brand new flight controller stick type joystick (not sure what its proper name is but its mint) Sega Dreamcast Nintendo N64 Playstation 1 - got it from my brother-in-laws recent purchase of a Pikey wagon for nothing Gamecube (does that count)
