I was out shooting a couple of hours ago in an old industrial park where there are some amazing textures and constructions/deconstructions.
I had a really hard job trying to catch the mood I felt was present... it was like having walked into a place where time itself had stopped. A sort of time pocket :)
I think these shots came out pretty well and I am well aware of some of the heavy PP. This is intentional where present.
Now what really had me troubled was composition. I didn't know how to catch he buildings and their expressions. I was shooting with the kit lens which is the widest I've got and often had it at 18mm. (Edit: looking at the pics again I see that only a handful of the ones that worked are at 18mm.)

Feedback on how to depict crumbling buildings like these in more "contexting (?)" compositions is highly appreciated. Other C&C is of course very appreciated as well :) Thanks!

I picked out 25 (sorry it's such a big bunch):

those are really cool! Some of them look like they could be textures out of HL2 or something though :D

Really nice set there OleJ, some of the tones are fantastic. In particular #1 is ace in focus and composition....can't help thinking it could be improved by making it a bit brighter with higher contrast though. :)

Thanks guys! I'm feeling all proud now :)

@Nath: I'll give the higher brightness/contrast a go and paste it here.

Some of them would make great HDR pics although ones of building like those are over done.

I was actually considering exposure bracketing a lot while I was shooting but hadn't brought a tripod and even if I had my HDR skills suck :D But yeah HDR would definitely have been able to describe some of the scenes better. Especially those I haven't posted that are completely flat and boring compared to IRL.

Perhaps HDR is the answer to capturing such places just right... Hmm... I'll bring my 50mm with me next time so I'll have low enough aperture to stay below ISO800 and avoid shake. Or perhaps bring a tripod :D

    Thanks for the input!

Those are some sweet pictures! Do you know what the facility was used for in it's day?

There is an old military radar installation up the road and I think you've inspired me to go try some shots there this afternoon!

Thanks. It used to be a large steel and iron works that was part of the very early F. L. Smidth company. The grounds have been used for production since sometime around 1898 or so. They still have some activity there, but not much. No manufacturing as far as I can tell rather just storage. The area is set for a large renovation and will probably all become high polished glass buildings and apartments in the coming years.
You may find more info on FLS here: http://www.flsmidth.com/FLSmidth/English/Company+profile/History/1882-1899_new.htm
