I bought this old laptop from a kid at school for $20, and i want to do something cool with it, because its really small motherboard is ideal for lots of stuff. does anyone have any ideas on what i should do with it? specs go as follows... 133mhz pentium 1 32mb ram 1.3gb 2.5" hard drive here is a pic of the motherboard, its about6 by 9 inches. the screen will also be good for something: but its got this wierd connector that i want to modify so it can work on a normal computer. any ideas on what to do? i was thinking of a small portable desktop, but that idea is kind of stupid and pointless.
not too much you can do w/ that, that connector 'cannot' be made to work w/ a normal computer, you will need a controller for that kinda thing, and those can be 100 bucks right there..., as for the laptop as a whole you could possibly make it a tablet pc type deal, or a pictureframe pc, just do so small things, but w/ only 133mhz you are kinda limited to your choices, and w/ only 32 megs of ram your max os will be win2k, sooo....
i was thinking of doing a picture frame pc, but i wasnt to intent on that because i wanted to use the lcd for other, more useful stuff, but if i cant ill make a picture frame pc. thatl still be cool, although id like to go for something a little more useful, a picture frame would be sort of boring, stylish, but not functional, almost a waste. ill see if anyone posts anything better, and ill decide what ill do.
no chances of using that lcd, chances of you actually finding a controller for it are slim to none, even if you can afford it....
but how? id have to have the data pass through the laptop, and show on the screen, its not as easy as showing stats on a second monitor. i might be able to find a program that would display the stats through a network or something. gaurdian storm, i was looking at a screenshot of that vcr case your going to make, and i noticed your start menu has pc stats on it, howd you do that? is it something special with media player, or what? i want it!
it seems like a really big ordeal to setup an entire other computer, network it, and then get a frontend to display stats from another system...., just my two cents, save yourself some trouble and get a small lcd from matrix orbital or crystalfontz...., but if your really wanting to do this, im sure you could write a program on your host pc and client one to transmit the stats, and the other to display them on your old laptop
yeah, i know, i wasnt planning on doing that idea anyway. im pretty sure ill do the picture frame one.
i take it you mean the stats that are replacing the clock? if so, that is just a Samurize Config, if you download and instal Samurize Clock onfig, il send you my Config Samurize Site: Here Clock Config Program: Here Its the top one PM Me and il send you my config About the laptop, if you used Winsock control you could write your own stats sending/recieving program
