Right then, why not just connect the velociraptor to the white sata ports (i think it's these that are controlled by the j.micron sata controller) and set the j.micron controller to operate in IDE mode?
Or if you've got your SSD in the j.micron sata ports, put the velociraptor in the native sata ports and set them to IDE?

Check your manual for which are which, but it should work.

Well you really shouldn't put the SSD on the jmicron controller as the ich10r is vastly better for SSDs - esp with the intel RST drivers...

in fact, for anything up to 2x 3Gb/s SSDs in R0, it's faster than any of the pcie controllers costing anywhere between £250 & £1000+ &, despite becoming bandwidth limited for large sequential r/ws, normally has a slight small r/w advantage for 3 - it is just that damn good (& why it's really disappointing that SB doesn't have an intel 6Gb/s controller as it's almost certainly 'kick arse').

Beyond that, it sounds like a basic troubleshooting exercise...

Well, since you know that the Samsung works, unplug it & use its power & data cables to test the VR.

& as a possible temp workaround, you 'could' try (1) pulling the SSD, reseting to IDE & making the VR the boot drive -> (2) boot into your old Win7 install, copy your needed files across to the Samsung & then format the VR --> (3) reverse the procedure in (1).
