Hi the onboard sound on my motherboard isn't working. Chip is on in BIOS, Latest Ac97 drivers installed. bascially i've checked everything still no joy. My question is will the sound work again if i buy a soundcard for the computer?
Yes - so long as its a different chipset (eg buy a creative card ) Chances are the wrong AC97 Drivers are in the machine, and it can be a pain to sort out (but not always). Sometimes windows detects the wrong audio chipset and then the wrong drivers are used. happens a lot with c-Media codecs. What make and model of motherboard do you have?
hi, I've been doing some heavy googling to find a solution, I have the same exact problem, and same exact make(ASRock), it seems a lot of people are having this problem the make is this one as far as my case goes, I can only assume the person who made the thread has the same, or around the same model the speakers are definitely not the problem as I tested them on another computer, I've even tried booting into a live linux disc, sound still didn't work what is there to do? I've downloaded the drivers from asrock's site, they don't work.. I will highly appreciate a response as I made an account just to make this post
http://www.hftonline.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-17133.html seems the only solution is to buy a PCI sound card :/ oh well at least it sounds a lot better than onboard
