so modding is cool right? no? then don't read this yes? then . For a long time i have been 'ing at this forum when I looked at all those cool mods on this forum. ( ) I kept thinking though wouldn't some c00l graphics and some software be the final touch? There is a lot of software which is specially created for modders (again use the search). But wouldn't it be a good idea to make it cover it all? I was thinking about the following: You can insert graphics that fit your mod, you are able to create them yourself (this can be screenshots or whatever) usefull information like time/cpu temp/corespeed/type etc is displayed. running like a type of desktop you can add useful software yourself (benchmark,games...) From this point you might think it is silly or you don't understand it, but I will soon post some screenies of my so-called socketed software. This is software with a graphical interface that can be programmed to be used for any kind of use. So what do I want from you? comment the idea help me think add new functions greez, hackjedi
this idea sound very similar to samurize. which a fair few people use on the forum already (you can tell from the what does my desktop look like thread) but looking forward to seeing what you have come up with none the less.
So what you are saying is make a GUI for your computers that you mod. So basically you can have a interface that matchs with you mod. Like having a febreze (bottle next to computer) mod and then having all your windows components match in by being blue and saying febreze. Sounds like a good idea. It would be easier i think in linux. KDE is easily changable compaired to windows. LIke matt said though samurize has alot of the features your talking about and has a customizable interface.
yeah, I think I'll just have a look at that program. Linux is a good idea, though I am a windows user myself
<sarcasm> i've already done that - my computer is grey and my windows theme is "classic" ... grey </sarcasm> It sounds like a good idea but imho would be too hard to code and theres already independant programs that can do that (samurize, windowblinds etc)
Your logic, Hackjedi, is valid. I think A mod is not finished until the GUI/Desktop is modded to fit the look. However spare yourself the trouble of re-inventing the wheel and investigate Samurize. It is incredibly versatile and incredibly easy to use. You can do cool looking destop stuff like this: ...and because Samurize recognises secondary monitors, you can use it to drive, say, a 5" TFT LCD screen in your PC bezel:
I remember a shining example of what you are talking about. Someone installed a graphical lcd on their case. They used some game logo (dont remember which) as a wallpaper on the screen. But the wallpaper cut off all of the edges of the logo on the screen. And then the outer edges of the logo were painted around the LCD. I thought that was brilliant.
@ r00t69: those are GUI enhancements, and a Widgets-type shell. Not the same thing. @ Morphine: Litestep is a shell replacement. Not quite what hackjedi was getting at.
