I'll start with a song that I woke up to last night as I left my mp3 player on and drifted off to spoke word but awoke mid way through this..

Yes --McAlmont and Butler

David McAlmont pretty much officially has the best voice in the known universe. He really sings as effortlessly as it appears; his cover of "Diamonds are Forever" is stunning. "Yes" is IMHO his best song.

 

This is my fav track of all time, one of those that I can put on no matter what mood i'm in and it makes me smile. Though I also wanted to post Foo Fighters - Everlong.

Nyah, used in Mission Impossible 2 (some other Hans Zimmer posts further on reminded me) and used regularly to run through any new audio setup, just because it's so flippin' beautiful to hear on a good set. This is not a song to play at low volumes

I don't really have a particular track that 'means' something to me. This one, though, usually motivates me to do something.

Toss up between this and Apulanta - Pahempi Toistaan.

 

Possibly the hardest choice ive had to make all year but heres mine

Bonfires --Blue Foundation

 

Holy hell this is hard. I love music and can listen to pretty much anything except country. To pick ONE song that stands out over everything else. If I had to narrow it down, my oldest favorites are some classics and blues-rock styles. The types that made their guitars sing - the likes of Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I think I'll go with Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood.(I'll try to find a vid when I get off work.)

Close second would be the Smashing Pumpkins - Today

 

Globus - Preliator (from Epicon)

I heard this sampled on Top Gear - the episode with the race through London - listen for it when Clarkson transits the Thames Barrier - and only recently got around to tracking it down.
It gets more epically, motivatingly, awesome every time I hear it. *plays*

 

I can't even come up with a shortlist... I'm crap at deciding stuff like this!

Best song ever written. Best guitar bits ever written. Best vocal/guitar play (a la Deep Purple, Golden Earring, etc). Just the best song ever, OK?

But mainly due to sentimental reasons the most awesome song to me is

Still makes the hairs on my neck stand up

 

For video it has to be Thriller.

For actual song...now that's the kicker, there is simply too many to choose from.
