https://www.techradar.com/vpn/vpn-p...und-to-spy-on-its-100k-users-uninstall-it-now This can go in a VPN thread if we have one, i tried search but it said VPN is too short.
I wrote about this very thing for The Register. It's still up, and no word from Google despite repeated queries.
I’ve given the free VPN included with Opera a couple of tries, just to see how well it works. With our internet connection not being especially fast anyway, it was almost unusably slow.
NordVPN was painful to use in the long term: Multiple slow downs, to flat out zero network traffic, until I switched it off and reconnected later. Constantly turned it off to access some sites, including Scan, the BBC and my own webmail service at times. Youtube was hit and miss too. Surfshark is far from perfect, but better than Nord, in my experience. Still get occasional issues with Youtube slowdowns and buffering, but far less often.
I've got 1.1.1.1 on my phone and it seems more VPNish than just changing the DNS tables in my router, which I've also done. I had a discussion on here a while back about whether it was a proper VPN though. My thinking is as I say, probably more so on my phone, but Reading this thread, every time I see "OSA" I think "Official Secrets Act" and regard us to be quite important types with various confidential leanings. Then I re-read some of our posts...
I'm happily using Mullvan VPN. 5 Euros a month for up to 5 devices, no need to buy a year all at once and they're super privacy focused. You can even pay by cash through the post if you want absolute anonymity! Speeds are good too. Without: With:
I recently got Windscribe, was on the fence between that and proton, but cost wise there was some deal so it was like £15 for the year so i got this, so far its hit and miss, youtube, torrents, sometimes good, sometimes useable. Ill give mullard a go, because it doesnt seem to matter what node i connect to i drop more than a third of my internet speeds.
