Haven't seen another thread about it, but apparently it's starting to turn into play and people I know from other forums are receiving their emails about becoming founding members. But anyway I just wanted to know what others thought of it, personally I think it won't work all that well considering the average broadband in Britain is 3.5Mb and that's at peak times, so streaming an entire game won't seem to work well in my view.

You don't stream the entire game, you stream a video feed of what the game is doing down, and your input up. Like if youtube was interactive, only (hopefully) prettier.

Sorry I did actually know that just didn't write it properly. Just still think the lag will be an issue.

Agreed, until BT get their collective finger out of their arse.

You might be ok with very slow paced games but lag will be a problem for most games shooters especially

There was a review of the US beta a while back here

Broadband in the uk in a lot of areas is still far too slow, I wish mine was faster.

I'm at work in my local town right now and this computer gets 6.5 meg on speedtest, but at home which is out of the town I get 1.8 meg.

I pay for 8Mb (although we would get boosted to 20 for free if the exchange was upgraded) but our line can only handle 5.5Mb (750kB/s max DL).

It can stream HD iPlayer, but only just, and not at peak time (when BT throttle us for being heavy users), so it might manage OnLive so long as it was at 540p or less, but then that's not particularly decent is it.

Edit: And at work we get about 820kB/s DL, so thats about 6.5Mb I think (and that's in the centre of town).

That article basically confirms what i thought it will be latency not bandwidth that causes problems.

Yeah that was my thoughts, bandwidth will be ample enough for most people country side people may have issues. But latency is going to kill it, UK broadband should be able to cope in so far as while it might have low download speeds lag is less of an issue.

On reflection i see this as competing more with the next gen consoles than pc gaming. I tdosen't offer a lot of what people choose pc gaiming for i.e. large degree of user control mods visuals etc but has more in common with the plug and play aspect of consoles except now you don't even have to put a dvd in the drive or go to the store to buy it.
