So, as you guys may know, i was sent a Pico-ITX board from VIA to do a mod. I was then also sent some goodies from an awesome Company called Logic Supply. I decided to put it all together to do some testing while i wait for a monitor to arrive from the US for the Pico project. So, here's the system: Yes. That's a full, working PC. Motherboard and PSU on the right, HDD on the left. Just to give you an idea of the size - the board measures 7.2x10cm. Here's the setup next to a regular size Rubik's cube: After searching the internet for many weeks, i found the perfect case: In went the HDD: And in went the rest of it: The rear I/O Panel: It took me many months to do this build. As you can see, the attention to detail is mindblowing. The work on the rear I/O panel was very intricate. So, i sat back and looked at it: And realised i didn't have any input interfaces. lol. The SATA cable was getting on my nerves too. So, out with the hardware, some more VERY complicated modding on the rear I/O section, in with the new SATA cable: In with the hardware, including USB: As you can see, my cable managemant is absolutely unparalelled. Build complete: It works! I have yet to do any concrete testing, but i will do so. Anyway, this is all just a little fun i'm having while i wait for a 7" Touchpanel to arrive from the US from the guys at LinITX. Once that arrives i can start working hard on the PROPER pico mod. I hope to have Endorphin finished one of these days too
Lmao, that must have taken you months... even Years to plan and execute and the outcome is so simple, it's brilliant
Any heat issues from having the components piled on top of each other in a small plastic container? Also, I am slightly disappointed not to see some lovely retro portable itx lunchbox pc mod here...
None at all This whole thread is just a joke dude I did this mod in a few minutes. I just needed something to temporarily house the hardware. I'm doing a full scale mod on this hardware at the moment
Great idea, a sense of humor is always great to have, even on a "serious" modding board. Hope to see what the final product will be once you do your full scale mod.
I've been wanting to do a nano or pico itx in a metal lunchbox case for a while. The plan was to mount a screen in the lid, so instead of whatever artwork you'd normally see, it would be the desktop of whatever os I installed (linux most likely).
The lunchbox is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who over the age of 8 could possibly call that tiny tupperware a lunchbox? A proper lunchbox is metal, and usually incorporates graphics for things chosen only to create the most humor. I really like this, and I did catch the tongue in cheek humor. John
I'm with john man that's a pathetic excuse for a lunchbox haha. More like a tupperware. But yes awesome mod love the detail around the ports in the back. It is, like your cable management, unparalleled.
Haha. Good one. Nice little experiment though. My next build is going to be a pico....just for the fun of it. Not for any real purpose.
D*mnit! go out an get yourself a proper 'Hello Kitty' lunchbox. If you're going for the joke, take it all the way and find the cheeziest kit possible.
How much does the Pico board cost? I know you didn't pay for it but did you see any kind of price? How much would this entire setup of costed?
I know nothing about the software involved, but it seems to me that you could set up a rather large cluster in the same size as a standard PC It makes me want to wander a few stores looking for what you would not expect a PC in, but would fit in with PC stuff. Now I want to know about that board, I have a few thoughts about things that would be neat to see. edit: I see it supports LVDS for an LCD, that could be used for some really interesting stuff.
i love that! really cute! It's such a shame that prices of Pico ITX board are so high. I could get an eeepc for not much more than the price of the pico, which is a real shame because i think they got so much potential for us modders!
I'm hoping the growing popularity of the Atom will mean Via have to reduce their prices across the board, in turn meaning that I can afford that Pico ITX Roberts Radio mod I always wanted to do A cheap Nano ITX form factor Atom board would do the trick.
Just a question about the pico board...is the processor/graphics good enough to do email/word/excel/powerpoint and occasional standard dvd movies on a 20" monitor? I can't wait till you actually do the real mod!
