Hey I need to get some help on Encrypting my HDD in OpenSuse and using a USB key on boot... like that if possible... I have no clue how to do it... Ill be doing a complete install of OpenSuse 11.1 (KDE) on my 160GB HDD, so Any steps to get this in action would be very helpful. Thanks!
Gentoo has a great tutorial (as always) http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/DM-Crypt With some common sense you can adopt it to your system.
Thanks Glider. I just opened it, please tells me it covers the part of USB key on boot as per the quote by C-Sniper
Well, like I said you have to adopt it a bit... You just place the key on the USB drive, and configure DM crypt to look on the USB... Personally, I can't be bothered to encrypt my data, waste of clock cycles...
yeah, might be a waste of cycles, but hey, if it works im just a bit paranoid (points to government thread in General) Well im off to redo my HDD... one quick question though. Can i encrypt it using a LVM partition set, rather than the standard set? Just want to check and make sure it'll work before i do it
Yeah, an LVM gets treated as a block device... And even so, you can even encrypt a file which you mount loopback (as in the guide)
