Windows xp, use Linux on secondary systems/systems that wont be running games. and i don't have any thing with mac os on it but i enjoy using it, it's just different i guess.
The problem could easily be solved if manufacturers provided free drivers. I don’t understand what they have to lose seeing as they are available without cost.
Like I said in my first post, it isn't the fault of Linux developers or some OS flaw, its that a lot of hardware manufacturers have less then stellar Linux support, if they have any at all.
XP on my main machine at home. I'm happy with it because it has great program and game compatibility. XP's instabilities are also exaggerated; I've found it to be stable enough. I'm not keen in upgrading to Vista at the moment: currently XP is fine and "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Besides, I'm not too fussed with DX10 gaming at the moment anyway. I also have a copy of an old version of Red Hat (!!) on an old computer, which was used as a quasi file server, but is in the process of dying a slow death (can't use it when I'm at uni). On top of this I have Leopard coming soon.
rite now I am deployed w/ my laptop that came with vista and i have Ubunut on a WUBI boot. my 2 boxes at home have xp pro.
I use XP Pro on my main rig and laptop, while my file server / streaming machine (thats in peices right now) runs ubuntu
XP SP2 on main machine (though have a vista ultimate upgrade around somewhere) Just got a new lappy with Vista on it, actually quite liking it at the mo (as much as it pains me to say!). Also have XP MCE on another laptop. Of the lot, prefer vista
XP Pro/Server 2003 at work XP Pro/Ubuntu 7.04/Leopard at home I used to use Ubuntu as my primary OS, but I now have a Vinyl plotter that doesn't come with any linux drivers. It has a serial interface, so I'd assume there's got to be something that would make it work, but until I find something reliable, I'm sticking with XP. If I didn't care about technical details at all (read: your average user) OS X Leopard would be among my top choices. I use XP because it works with everything I have, is speedy, and doesn't require much maintenance, if any at all. I use Linux because I love free software and simply like to say "I made this with Linux". I haven't used Vista so I can't comment on it, but I'm the type of guy that doesn't use window styles on my workstation, but uses compiz-fusion on my linux laptop. (I like eyecandy when it doesn't get in the way) I also admin a network, and given the choice, every computer I support would run XP Pro SP2. We currently support Windows 2000, XP, OS X Tiger and Leopard, and OS X is by far the hardest to administer. It feels like it was made for an individual to be able to do just about anything with their computer in a simple manner, which makes it a great OS for power-users and home-users, but a miserable OS for a network administrator. (Especially when some of the computers belong to the staff that use them, and they don't let you lock them out.) Final result of using the top 3 most popular OSes: They are all computers and are all cool, frustrating, easy, and hard at different times, and in the end what you are used to and what your closest tech support is used to will make the biggest impact on your computing experience. (That and how much coffee you've had to drink, but that's pretty OS independent)
I'm using Vista on my notebook as that was the only thing Hp would ship with. But on the desktop XP is still the OS!
XP Here XP Here. I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and OpenSUSE live cds this week. They're still not there for me because the driver support still isn't good enough. Ubuntu/Kubuntu : Video drivers. Native monitor res not supported out of the box (ATi, 1680x1050). Second monitor troubles even after updating the drivers from the package manager. SUSE: No networking out of the box & same video issues. I like the idea of Linux, but don't have the time to mess about fixing fundemental problems with stuff that should just work. .. & I like to play proper games, not the "wooo! I got it to work!" game.
