i need to buy a new OS drive because im passing on the 320GB WD im using atm. i cant bring myself to spend £175 on a raptor so im strugling to find the right drive. i have serveral TB as storage drive atm so i just need something to run windows games and my apps from.

i remeber reading something about the peformance of the 1tb drive being rather good and was considering getting one and formating it to 300gb or so. or just buying a 500 or something. but i know very little about hard disk peformance :p

so the 500gb 7200rpm seagate is better than a raptor? or i the raptor better for OS because of better access times or something?

    that's just 1 benchmark.

for application, best drive is WD Black or Raptor. because of low access times.
for storage, any Green drive would be great, since it's what's on it that's important, and you will rarely access it.

the point i was making is that id rather not spend the money on a raptor so is the 500gb seagate a good alternative?

Why not get a large solid state to boot from and run games?

WD Black 640GB or Black 320GB are fantastic for OS. it's got really low access time (for 7200rpm drive)

I just bought a WD Caviar Black 640gb based on the strength of reviews. It should turn up today, I'll try and remember to let you know how it goes, but they are priced well that's for sure :)
