I have no idea where this thread is meant to go so sorry if its somewhere its not meant to be. Anywayi'm coming to the end of a 12month contract on 3 (600min 400txt ), and time has come to swap the Nokia 6280 for something new. I've narrowed it down to 6 phones i like the look of but i'd like someone elses input. Nokia 8800 Sirocco - Sexy phone, small simple. > Costs loads!, No Wifi Nokia E61 - Wifi, Nice Screen. > Too big, no camera Sony W950i - Large 4gb HD. > Already have Iriver, No Camera/wifi Sony P990i - Wifi, Camera, Touchscreen. > Looks massive, cost Nokia N73 - Good Camera, smallish?, simple. > Flash?, No wifi Nokia N80 - Wifi. > Camera rubbish?, similar to 6280, slow (Already ruled out the V3x and the k800i as i have owned one and the gf has the other.) As you can see wifi is something that appeals to me (everywhere i go i seem to get a signal) so i'm tempted to get one with wifi browsing. Unfortunately they all seem too big. If cost wasn't an issue i think i'd go with the 8800 as it appears to be just a phone and nothing else, and the simplicity kinda appeals to me. Otherwise its a toss up between the N80, E61 and N73 all depending on the sizes. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated as you have to put up with this piece of technology for 12 -18months and i seem to be good at picking duffers. If you think i should really check out another model let me know and i'll add it into the mix.
P990i - Not as big as it looks, great featureset, seems to crash all the time and be a general pain in the ass. I'd go with the K800i, but everyone seems to have one these days. It's a real pickle (my phone contract's up for renewal in about a month, so I'm trying to decide what the hell to get).
the 8800 is a bit out of place in that list? has its sexy looks seduced you? Its a lovely phone and all, but it doesn't really do anything. If you want to do much other than make/receive calls, it isnt for you. I had a P910i for a while and then got an 8800 and it was a bit of a shock to the system (but its sooooo pretty )
I'm up for renewal too, and was gonna go with the generic upgrade from my K750i to a K800i. The problem for me is that looking around, I can't find a contract that I want to get tied into for 12/18 months. Three have announced a next gen thing called X-series that they're supposed to be announcing the pricing on in December. I think they're a bit restrictive over which phones it'll support ATM, but I'm gonna wait for their announcement before upgrading.
The other one I'm tempted to atm is the Samsung X820. What's Samsung's software like? I've never actually used one for a decent amount of time, only a quick flick through menu's and stuff, so that doesn't tell me a great deal...
I've just got my bond edition k800 after getting rid of my k750i (by breaking it lol) I tried the W850i and sent it back, same for the W950i, the keys are not anywhere near sensitive enough for acurrate texting, and I am a texting fiend.
Right the 8800, If your after a phone with form over function this is the one for you, its a posers phone. cons Pricing, small screen small memory buttons are fiddly and thus hard to text with pros looks great feels solid (i hate light phones) did i mention it looks great. /me pats his 8800 Nims
Yeah i just love the simpleness of it. Sometimes i can't stand phones that pretend to do so much else but can't really pull any of it off. I'm very intrigued by that x-series though as it appears to be a good alternative to wifi without the bulkier handsets. Basically it all comes down to how the E61, w950 and N73 feels in store and then if i manage to scrape a spare £200 (selling pc gear) i might consider the 8800. At the moment though i think the N73 has the edge.
nokia N80. Its not a bad phone, but it depends what you want, The wifi and the web browser are brilliant, the camera isnt half bad, ive got some brilliant shots on it, (as long as you hold it steady) the battery is appauling you will have to charge it every other day, If your after a phone look else were, However If you want A Pda sort of device that still looks like a phone, then its a very good choice. edit : its not a slow phone its a got a lot more memory at least than my 3230. All in all Im happy (strokes N80)
I saw a dude with a N80 the other day and asked how he felt it performed and he said nearly the same as you but then he showed me sending a text message. It actually took 30 seconds for the text to send! I don't mind if it takes awhile but this stopped you doing anything else while it was sending which is a bit useless if you ask me. Also it just felt like a bigger version of my current 6280 which considering my phone currently has a list of problems to fill a page of A4 doesn't make me eager to get one. I spoke to three today regarding the xseries and it appears its just going to be a £5-£10 bolt on for any standard package at least until the end of December by which time i need a new phone anyway.
