I wasnt sure where this thread goes, its abit of an opinion question so thought it would suit here best perhaps.

Im trying to backup some of my dvds since i constantly lend them to friends and i rarely ever see them again (friends hey...grr)
Nero6.0 doesnt seem to cut it, it keeps getting a read error/burn error when reading dvds now and then and from what im told, theres better stuff out there,

What do you guys use or think is best to backup your movies?

How about a better writer, better cable or better media?

    Nero 7?

    Burn at lower speeds?

Lower speeds using Nero 6 on good media I find the best, I have had issues with the MP3 encoding and burning in Nero 7 so I don't use that anymore. DVD Santa is pretty good as well.

Nero is the only burning software worth bothering about. V7.0 is the one to go for imo, but V6 is great too. If you have problems, I'd suggest that they aren't nero's fault.

I didn't get any software with my dvd drive because I got it second hand. I downloaded a few things but either they were rubbish or the trial periods ran out, either way, I'm using a VERY simple program called "Burnright! CD & DVD" that actually works pretty well, so yeah, give it a whirl.

as far as backups, I've had good luck with dvd decrypter. as far as burning, it does have a burn option and does just fine burning the img files it creates.

If you're getting read errors, it's probably copy protection (ARccOS) on the original disc.
There is a plugin for DVD Decrypter called PSL2 (links DVD Decrypter with PCGEdit) which automatically reads and "repairs" copy protected discs so that you can make your backup copies. More info here
