Hey guys. Deciding that I had a need for remote access software, I started to do a little research and ask around to some of my friends to see if they knew anything. I saw some posts on forums and heard from some of my friends that a program called Logmein free is really common. What are your opinions of this? Is it a decent solution to the remote access problem? thanks!
What are you logging into? On a CLI *nix system: SSH all the way; On an XP station: VNC is good, but not secure, the (default in Pro) Remote desktop is good, but not secure... Therefor, I run at home (for connection from the internet) a SSH tunnel which forwards the ports needed for VNC and Remote Desktop. Secure & easy...
Logmein works great for a situation when the PC is behind a firewall etc ... Otherwise, VNC or Windows Remote Desktop do the job with much less overhead.
VNC it is then if they are pro, you could use the windows Remote destkop client... UltraVNC and TightVNC are 2 suites that I use(d), and they both work great.
Logmein is pretty good actually, I managed to open up CS:S from a ****** old Win98 computer in an electronic classroom. Crashed though, that sucked a little.
For security and minimal hassle from firewalls etc, Hamachi is teh daddy!!! Install it on all your machines and if they can get online, you can control them. Best of all, you can use the same IP for a machine every time, no matter where it is or where it's connecting from. Fantastic software tbh!! Then you can use VNC, RD etc without fear of your security as you have a PC-PC VPN running.
