Im about to order this optical drive from ebuyer. Just wondering because its OEM will i need to buy a sata cable for it? Or do some come with the motherboard? Also that should work fine right i prefer it over the LG.

I just got one of these and mine didn't come with a cable, in fact it came with very little at all. I got mine from AriaPC.
I got SATA cables with my TPower I45, but you should be able to buy them from any PC shop.
I guess it depends what motherboard you get.
You'll also need SATA power cables, which you should get with the PSU, again depends what PSU you get.

Oh right thanks was just about to buy on ebuyer but the cheapest p&p was about £4 and on scan it was £7. Looks like i will have to wait a while and make a bigger order. Would this be the cable to buy?

I bought an OEM dvd drive which came with no cables but my motherboard came with more than enough (Gigabyte UD3R) to hook it up

Yes that is a Serial ATA cable you will also need a SATA power cable as well, if you didn't get any with your PSU.

The one linked is a molex to SATA power cable.

Even in the retail boxed version of that drive you only got the four mounting screws and no cable, so follow the suggestions of the other posters and let it reach you all in the one box.

What you've linked looks fine if you know you don't have any spare SATA leads straight off your PSU and if you're not replacing a dead SATA Burner like I was, to already have a mobo-to-drive data connector. As you say the P&P is silly money especially at the moment where it might be coming by courier to head off postal strikes - so order them with the drive for the one charge.

Can vouch for Ebuyer, though the only warning is to double check the delivery and ensure you're offered the AM or PM brackets - otherwise it might turn up at 5.30 like mine did.

That is right 1 is for power the other data.

Your PSU may have come with SATA power cables or you can convert a molex power cable using something like the one I linked to.

Here is the back of my optical drive. The orange cable is the data SATA cable and the black one further back is the power cable that comes from the PSU.

I'd do the safe thing and get one of those SATA cables that click into place. Standard SATA cables have this nasty tendency to quietly unplug themselves. Very annoying...

That OptiArc writer looks fine, by the way. Personally, I'd have gone with a Pioneer 215/216/217, but this is probably very close in quality.
