My optical drive is not being recognized after POST. Usually this is due to plugging optical drive in ports 1 - 4, and/or not setting SATA 5/6 connectors to IDE.

    [Problem Description]
    HD connected SATA1 Port.
Optical Drive connected SATA 5 Port.
Machine Boots and enters into BIOS ok.
Both HD and Optical Drive show up under BIOSMain Menu SATA 1 - 6
Storage Configuration ONCHIP SATA CHANNEL [ENABLED]
    SATA PORT 1-4 [IDE]
    SATA PORT 5-6 [IDE]

When machines boots after successful post I get message: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press enter."

I am supposed to get above message ONLY if SATA 5-6 is not set to IDE.
Double check, tried both SATA 5 and SATA6 connectors no help[.
I tried 3 different optical drives, no help.
I can load and install OS Win7 or Vista if I use a USB Flash Drive for OS installation, but then the Optical Drive does not recognize formatted disks and thinks all dvds and cds are blank, so I cannot install mobo drivers or anything on install dvd.

I successfully load all drivers using another machine, copying files to flash drive, and then installing from flash drive, but even after this the dvd drive does not recognize any formatted drives.

Did you set the boot priority to check the optical drive first in the BIOS?

Can you test the optical drives on another machine - do they and the disc work there too?

Have you tried updating the BIOS in EZFlash to the latest version?
