Thanks Sid. I appreciate the feedback. :)

einsteinthe2nd - Hehehee. I know the feeling - I got it recently looking at mods like ScopeDog's 'PRIME' and Piloux's 'Dark Crystal Woodcase' projects (and anything by Cold Dog over at Pheatonforums). :D

I locked the original thread because it's old and tired now and can die a natural death since all the stuff in it has been written up and posted on the main site as articles. I can't say when things will be done because whenever I set deadlines I am usually too optimistic and something comes up etc etc :sigh: I have been pretty slack the last few weeks though :worried: Trying to have a totally relaxing holiday away from my normal job (=stress) and modding is still a little like 'work' at times (plus I got Star Wars KOTOR for xmas and it has lured me away to the dark-side!).

I promise I will get lots done as of 01 Jan onwards and there will be an update in the next couple of weeks (to the project log) regardless of whether I have finished the whole case or not.

    Cheers

That is an amazing job hands down. I only wish I had the patience to wait that long in my modding to do something nearly as great.

Great Work! Your excellent pictures and descriptions make it so easy for the reader to understand exactly what you intend them to. Great write up, and of course superb case! Keep up the great work! Anyone can tell that you will have even better things to come.

One question i ahd that i ahve always wondered, and happened to be mentioned in your very first section was the pin extraction from the atx plug. How exactly did you do that, i have always wodnered, possibly a link or something, i know you said you read a guide before. Thanks, and sorry if i should have posted in the thread for Part 1.

    Simply Incredible

Your stunning work on the Orac3 project is setting a new standard of quality in mods (Not up to the quality of yours, but just more so they dont look bad in comparison :hehe:) I do have one question though. How much of a hole is this project burning in your poor wallet? (Ill imagine quite a big one. **Dude, I can see out the other side of you**)

Excellent work! Keep it up! (And death to beige! :D ) Keep those tools of yours working on this awesome Mod! We salute you! :dremel: :dremel: :dremel: :dremel: :dremel: :dremel:

this is the nicest case mod ive ever seen gnomey.
ive never been a fan of clear cases until i saw orac³
i would bow down to you any day. you must have spent a load on this project though lol.
trying to build a pc and do a case mod for under £100 is been difficult for me but im getting there.
cant wait for part 5 :D

PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND WORK AROUND THE BAN ON SIGNATURE PICTURES.

I totally understand about KOTOR. It sucked 55 hours of my life away not too long ago. Excellent game. Soooo many different endings. Light side, Female, Scout, Consular. Lovely plot twist too.

Praised before but will praise again. Excellent work on Orac^3. I'm dancing with excitement for the conclusion, but please don't rush through KOTOR just for me ; )

If I were ever fortunate enough to have that rig on my desk, I have no idea how I would ever manage to stop pacing around it grinning like an idiot long enough to actually boot it up.

Have you considered windowing you HDD's? Those things don't look like they've been modded yet, and some green EL wire activity lights snaked around the platter(s) might look pretty flash. Hell, you could even make the HDD window out of the green acrylic and light it with white LEDs.

Also, there are RAM DIMMs out naw that have activity LEDs on them.

    http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/xms.html

Those are just begging to be modded - the LED hookups and activity moniter are already right there. Could be seen from the side, top, possibly even the front, depending on what you do with it.

Are you planning anything for your keyboard/mouse? Opaque/white keys could look nice with some backlighting. Or if you were insane, you could strip the whole thing and make the shell/keys out of plexi.

    inspiring & amazing

I hadn't intended to get in to modding, partly because some of the modded cases I have seen do not inspire me to see my PC as anything other than a container for parts.

However, your work is fabulous! As one member said, you are taking the scene to a new level. I think that at last, modded rigs can compete with manufactured plastic like macs for pure, 'live with-able' style.

    Great attention to detail.

I'm off to buy a dremel and shall put my thinking goggles on. Cheers - matt

    back already

g-gnome, sorry if you covered this in the article (if so, do you know where - I couldnt find this part...), but could you tell me where you got your great vandal switches?

The reason I ask is because the lit ring looks so much nicer and thinner than the bulgins like those in the following link (yours do light up, right?)

    http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/catalog/v...EWYW1BWQK0FQFIAEWSFE4AVAAS0IV3?prodId=4303088

I found some non-lit at maplin, but don't want to buy them without knowing if I can dremel in to them to insert my own led, or backlight them or something..

    thanks - matt

I think the original Orac should be Jealous of the Orac3... The O3 is so much cooler looking!

Ive been browsing the bit-tech site for quite some time but have never got around to posting in the forums, i thought this was as good a thread as any for my first post, as G-gnome's work is truly amazing! Ive been following this mod from part-1 and it just gets better! Seriously nice work, i don't know anyone who isn't in awe when they consider the effort put into this!

I wont make the mistake of asking how much this is costing or how long its gunna take, i just wish G-gnome the best of luck with the rest of it and anticipate part 5.

    ROCK ON MAN!!!!

    My words are... OMG

:eeek: first of all greetings everybody.
About the Orac3 project i have to say that i found it ocasionaly, and im glad i did, because this project is more then a case modding, im fan of case modding and i'v seen so many reviews but i'v never ever seen nothing like this before, if you didnt posted all the pics i was gonna think that you bought moust of the parts allready prepared to fit.
And i sent this review to some friends of mine also fans of modding and they were like :jawdrop: wooooow... so this is just to give you an idea of the effect of your amasing work, Keep it UP  .

PS: and by the way my sign is dedicated to your fine work :)

G and everyone else... This is hands down the best mod I have ever seen... Finally, someone takes modding to the next level. Your attention to planning, detail, and uniqueness is what makes this case a success. I am completely blown away....

Once I have the ability to read all four articles in detail, I will have more to say. I really hope that this resinates in the modding community (and it has with over 1M hits) and that this will become a trickle effect.

Great accomplishment to take a fantasy and make it real!!!

it is truely a great modding project, I for one cannot wait to see the end of it (in one sense) but I will be sad to see the end in another sense :)
