    Hi,

I can't connect to one of the three PCs on my network. The crossover cable is fine - I've tested it. When I connect the problem PC to either of the LAN ports on my A7N8X the green light doesn't come on - instead only an orange light is illuminated. The network wizard gets stuck when trying set up the network.

Can anyone explain the meaning of that orange light?

I have three PCs linked with two crossover cables. My central PC has two ports so i'm planning to bridge the connecting between the two adapters for a 3 PC network. That should work right?

    Thanks

iirc green = link and orange = activity, hence the orange only coming on, must be some kind of error, with a dodgy nic on the other pc, especially if the cable works...might need to get a new one tbh, but tis only a couple of bucks!

in theory what you want to do with your network should work fine, i have only had minor issues with running crossover cable networks, but aslong as the cables are definetly working it should be easy...

The network cards on all the PCs are fine. I have managed to network every computer to just one other computer. The network cables have all worked in other setups aswell. The problem is I can't network one particular pair. I always get the orange light and no green light. Do you know if there is any documentation on the mainboard's network adapters? I can't find any :wallbash:

Check the connection mode in the ASUS NIC's properties. Whether it is set to auto or half/full duplex.

Installed the drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard?

Thanks for the help people. In the end I just installed another network card that I had spare. Everything worked straight off. Must have been some sort of strange compatibility issue.

    cheers
