Hi all, I want to buy Win7 and use 64bit with more than 4GB of RAM, I also want to at least use it for my gaming PC, but also if its legal to hopefully use it for my laptop and possibly another older server type PC. Where do we stand on this point? which version must you buy to allow licenced use on say 2 machines owned by the same keyholder? I have a choice as it is now of: 1)"Pre-ordering" windows 7 for £69, (half priced ) Sounds great if you agree any OS is worth twice this price, I personally dont think home versions should be anywhere near this but what can you do, its a monopoly by MS. How long also do we have to wait to get the software using the pre-order? 2)buy Vista 64bit between june and october this year and get a free (voucher?) for windows7 when it is released. Also sounds great if you get a proper Windows7 copy whenit is released and not some dodgy replacement disc with a different install method. Also it could be great IF you can perhaps still use the old vista OS on another machine as well as the new Win7 OS, I cant see MS allowing this however, Im betting you lose the vista key when you activate the Win7 key but if they dont this could prove a bargain? what do you think? 3) download the "free to use till june 2010" version and later purchase a key? Can this be done still? or was this only for the BETA testers? surely there will be similar trial versions as previous versions or do they only arrive after official release? I would definitely like to at least see win7 running on my main PC to assure myself its worth buying it at all. Reviews of Win7 sound great but nothing beats personal experience i find. It also means I can build a new PC anytime and get it running for a while and then later decide which OS to use perminantly once ive had experience with it The major downside would be the full price of Windows7 being imposed because I didnt pre-order. Whats my best bet here? buy win7 now to take advantage of the lower prices? it all stinks to me of MS tricking us into adopting stuff early by threatening to raise prices later!! its legalised extortion ffs! lol Buy Vista 64bit now, enjoy immediate benifits of 64bit memory capacity and get Win7 later at the expense of time and effort installing Vista then soon after wiping it to install Win7? plus the cheapo update type disk they are sure to use rather than a recognisable win7 box (meaning less desirable/valuable to anyone buying your PC later) Or use a trial copy and perhaps order win7 just before the discount offer expires for pre-orders go out and purchase it? what would you guys say is best to do?
Download Windows 7 RC, install it. Buy Windows 7 (now as a pre-order or later at full price) so that you have a copy when it comes out on October 22nd. Install it then (this will be a FRESH install - deleting the old RC). Done. I'm doing exactly the same thing with my laptop.
You will also need a different copy for each pc,to stay legal anyways. You could run the RC on all three for the moment but next year they will start shutting down every 2 hrs.
