I'm wondering what the big difference is between OS X Server and OS X - IF you want to use it as your primary computer. a) Is the Server version a kind of add-on to the usual OS X, so you can just turn off all the sharing and extra security to get to the basic OS X? or... b) Is it a true Server OS that only makes a point if you really want to setup a server? and... c) If I buy the newly announced Mac Mini Server (the slim unibody version), would I in case of b) are the right answer be able to install the usual OS X, bought separately of course, to use it as a normal Mac Mini? ...as long there are no Blu-Ray in the thing I don't have anything to use the optical drive for, but much to use the extra harddrive space to.
OSX Server is a bit different than standard. Part two is true, really no point to run server os on a desktop unless you need the server parts. You'll never see Blueray on a Mac. Yes, you can install standard OSX on a mini bought with server.
I put this question up in three different fora troughout the web - and you are the only person who nailed the reply I had hoped for rock on!
Damn those sneaky /b/tards at Apple released a new macMini without any real announcements... Looks damn sexy
Yep, only one thing I could really use is missing - a performance chart compared to earlier models. If I don't find it I might end up buying one and pumping the web full of whatever rating I can digg out of the small thing. If anyone see a performance rating of the new mini's would they be happy to share?
